This morning between Hamlin and Old Glory I saw 6 coveys. I saw another 2 coveys between Old Glory and Rule. I saw one more huge covey when I made a pit stop at the Idella cemetery. Finally I saw one more as I pulled onto the KM oilfield west of Knox City. I've never seen Bird driving 80 on two lane roads like I did this morning. I can't wait for opening day.

I'm hearing folks saying it's better than last year if that's possible. I have three pups to start so I hope they're right.

Yup Old Glory is my neck of the woods. Lots of birds. We've been getting points here and there while dove hunting

Knox City is a long drive for me but I got on a great day lease there several years ago.

Saw two coveys of at least 20+ birds in Victoria County this morning, healthy birds.

There's birds out there for sure. Got this pic and a phone call this morning from Virgil Moore telling me he had Frank down for 38 minutes and he dug up 4 coveys. This is in Western Okla. not far from TX boarder. This may be a banner season.

I just saw a covey east of Weatherford Tx off of Pearson Ranch Road. Only 8 birds, I saw them several months ago and there were around 20. Maybe they didn't all get up this time. This is the only covey I've ever seen in Parker county.

I used to see quail in Grand Prairie.

In the Rolling Plains Region of West Texas, state biologists have counted a record 50.24 quail per 20-mile census line.

The census has been done since 1978. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel count birds by driving a 20-mile route in early morning, when quail are most visible. The long term average for the Rolling Plains Region is 20.16, and the previous record was 49.25, in 1987.
