Both my handguns were stolen from my vehicles the other night, one a glock 19 the other a Sig 250 in .40 s&w

My wife had been on me to get her a smith and Wesson M&P shield since I met her, well, she got her wish.

I had never shot one until yesterday but I will say I'm damn impressed with that little gun. Trigger was crisp, clean and accurate. It did have a few failure to feeds but I attribute that to being a new gun

That being said, I'm in the market again. I am going to get my LTC permit and start carrying, which leads me to think more subcompact than my glock 19 (which I believe is the greatest pistol ever made, I loved mine but it was not concealed carry grade and I don't like the smaller glocks)

Anyone have any suggestions or input on the shield? I'll prolly pick up a pistol by the end of the week

The Springfield XDMs and the XD's had horrible triggers,,I have owned them in the past but don't care for them now. I had a LC9 thst I liked ok but not as much as the shield.

Glock 19 makes a good carry gun. Why not go with what you love?

Maybe to carry on my hip but it's too big to conceal

Say what? It's a compact gun.
I even conceal my Glock 22 sometimes.

I conceal carry a P226 with TLR1 and extended mag everyday on and off duty. Find the right holster and all is well.

I know a guy that carries a full size 1911 and he's maybe 140 pounds on a good day. I can never tell when he's strapped. A good holster does wonders.

He carries that in a shirt and jeans?

Glock 19 with a Crossbreed IWB works wonders for me.

I've even concealed a Glock 20 with an Aliengear, but that was a little less comfortable...

Some call the Glock a Tupperware gun , myself I've shot some Glocks 19 and personally do not like Glock but most people like Glock cause LEO's carry a lot of them . The Shields are good guns but I'd prefer the new .45ACP than the .40 or 9mm . I rotate between a XDs .45ACP with the 3.3" barrel and the LC9s which is better than the LC9 and now they have the LC9s without the thumb safety . I know you said you don't care for either XDs or the LC9 . But right now those are the two of best compact CCW on the market . But a CCW is like clothes , you wear what fits, what you like best . Otherwise you won't be satisfied . However when you start carrying after a period of months you might just want to find something else that is best comfortable to wear for you personally . A .45ACP get's heavy by the end of the day , just make sure you have a good sturdy belt to hold up . Make sure your holster is a good one too , otherwise you'll be in the market for a new holster also . Good luck on your decision , besure YOU make the decision what you want or you won't be satisfied yourself . You'll always have that wish you had of bought that......

Shield is about the best carry gun out there IMHO. Perfect combination of size, ergonomics, caliber, reliability, and price.

Personally, I don't care for Glock and I love my XD-9, so we may not have a lot in common. And I view any gun larger than my Kel Tec P-3AT as something that's a nuisance to carry. My KT is good though.

Went back today, no way I can comfortably conceal a glock 19 in jeans and a T-shirt.

Gonna go with the shield

Shield is a nice pistol. Have you looked at the Sig P938? Another fine firearm/easily concealed.

Also get with east for a holster. Best holster on the market. Blows crossbreed out the water.

There is a way. I am sure literally thousands of people carry a G19 every day. If you don't feel personally comfortable doing it, though, that's what matters. If you will feel more comfortable carrying the shield and will therefore carry more often, then you are making a good decision.

I promise you can easily carry a Glock 19, though.

What makes you say that?

Maybe if I was wearing a moo-moo or a down jacket but not in jeans and a shirt. I tried it today, can't do it.

I'm 5'5-5'6 150 lbs.....if I was 6'4 maybe I could get away with it

I know what your saying , small , lightweight, (small or med frame build) . The 19 would print on you well enough to be spotted . Your size and build you need something very compact and maybe smaller . I really highly suggest you try a LC9s or smaller . My LC9s is slightly slimmer and lighter weight than my XDs .45ACP . I have a Taurus PT24/7 Pro DS with a 4" barrel , great gun but I hardly ever carry it cause it prints and it's about the same size as the Glock 19 . I'm 5'9" weight 225-lb . I carry nothing IWB , all mine is OWB with a good belt and shirt tail out . My most comfortable one is my LC9s' . Does not print ever . Here's a picture with 3 I have , you can see how much smaller the LC9s is .

My wife carries a commander sized 1911 in normal clothing. You guys are nuts if you think you can't carry a Glock 19. To each his own, but I'm amazed this is even a discussion.

Your wife 6'4 220 lbs?

Im not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying in jeans and a T-shirt, a glock 19 is noticeable when I move.
