He might just barely be legal. I wouldn't shoot him.

Always hard to make that decision in East Texas but if he makes it another year, he could be a nice buck

I think hes legal. Being that he appears mature/almost mature, id bet his ears are closer to 14" wide and not 13". Since he probably lives in and spends alot of time in the national forest, somebody is gonna shoot that deer if they have the chance.

I think I'd wait til all the traffic starts in the national forest and get his daddy. Its only a matter f time before the biguns look for a hideout.

I say no, looks like a nice 3yo and if he is in the right area of a NF he has a good chance to make it.

I would let him walk, but of course being next to national forest he will probably be shot by another hunter at first sight.

To early in the year and to close to think about shooting him.

I'll give someone's suggestion from another thread. Shoot him in between the eyes then measure.

I got these two pictures last year, the only decent pictures of a buck at my feeder in the same area. Do you think it is the same buck as above?

I am a new hunter and I would pass on this deer. The antler spread looks wider than the ears but what if the ears are a bit short? As mentioned in previous posts he looks young. Barely legal. If this is near Angelina Forest or Sabine National Forest his chances are slim. I have a feeling someone will take a shot. Let's hope he makes it to next year or longer. Nice thing is that it is in the area and coming to your location. I would be happy just having him stop by. Nice buck and congratulations on the nice pictures.

Different deer. if that one is still alive it should look good this year. If you want buck pics, move the camera away from the stand & feeder and put a pile of corn in front of it along a logging road/SMZ/fire lane, etc.

No not the same deer. I agree with rifleman, if that deer is still alive, you should be hunting that deer

I agree. The buck will easily satisfy the 13-inch rule.

Remember that 13 inches is the average distance between the outside edges of buck's ears WHEN IN THE ALERT POSITION. The photo shows his ears in a more relaxed position, which increases the distance between the outside edges.

I'd say 'legal', but barely.

Not the same buck in both pics. G2's on Second buck much taller.

a nice young buck that needs a few more years, might be legal and if he is and you like him kill him if not give him a pass up

I tend to be cautious but even I think he's legal. The second deer is the one you need to be hunting.
