Saturday afternoon I saw 2 different pairs. I thought it would be late for that in the Bowie area.

I'm in Clay county, and have 5-6 spotted fawns running around.

Had a fawn last year with spots during the second weekend of October...

Almost every year I see stragglers with spots in November still.

fawns will start losing their spots when they start putting on their winter coat ... usually 90-120 days from their birth. Still seeing spots in central Texas.

I took this pic on 11-9-2010. Wide range of fawn birthing dates in Texas. I have seen them in early April till Oct depending on the area of the state you are in. Also in those areas the buck to doe ratio has a major effect on when the doe are bred and fawns are born. Throw in areas where doe fawns are born early enough in the year for her doe offspring to be old enough to breed later that hunting season. Those fawns can breed after the first of the year very late. They will in turn have fawns very late in the fall. This is a pic I think of a fawn born under that scenario.

I have a mixture of little clowns here as well, went into late Oct with one last year, also have several that have 1-2 left, so..

I've got 4 of them showing up regularly to my feeder.

Last year I saw three fawns with spots first week of the archery season. One I swear had the dried umbilical cord still hanging.

The way I look at it the breeding age deer, both male and female respond to the weather, photoperiod, available food sources, etc in a given year. The time of antler growth, breeding, and fawning correspond accordingly the following year. The health of the animal, ability to retain weight/fat storage, age, geographic location, all affect each individual deer and deer population. Management and other interference in the natural course can cause subtle changes that overtime deviate from the natural way of things. Sometimes beneficial, sometimes not.

Nature provides seasonally for what is needed in the seasons to come for all animals, simultaneously it takes away by the same token... Each individual may or may not be prepared to take advantage of this. For every flood there is drouth, for every life there is death.

Got three+ spotted fawns out in East TX.

Have one on deer cam near Lake Fork last week.

The "late rut" as I used to call it, seems to have become more common the past three or four years.

Not uncommon to see spotted fawns in October and some in November, Like STX pointed out doe fawns born early enough will breed late and still have youngsters with spots later than older does usually. The spots will disappear when the winter coat grows in.
