Tomorrow is my pups birthday she'll be a year old. Last week I took her on her 2nd dove hunt. We were blessed with tons of birds and lots of them being Eurasian collared doves. The first hunt I was alone. I shot 15 collared and 12 morning doves in less then an hour. I knew I could've kept shooting birds but I had two more days to hunt and didn't feel the need to kill more. Besides my brother Tony would be driving in the next day so I didn't want to push the birds out before he got there. It was cool out but since the dog was still willing to run I decided to walk her to a nearby tank in hopes we might find some quail to point. She had just retrieved 27 birds so I thought it'll be interesting to see if she would point. The first 10 birds she retrieved she actually pointed first and the I commanded fetch and she went in. On the way to the tank I gave her the command I alwas give her when quail hunting..hunt m up lets go. We found 4 coveys on the way to the tank and she did great holding point. Those were three. She did great. The fourth covey had lots of birds but she got birdy and before she pointed they busted. We called it a day and I went to work on bow blinds.

Day two, I skipped a morning hunt since brother would be in for the evening and went to work on bow blinds again. Coco didn't do so well she pushed two coveys of quail while we were out filling feeders and running around. I was in the Ranger and she was running wide open both times so maybe it's not so bad. Tony called and wouldn't make it in the the evening so I headed to the tank in camp and just hammered the birds again. They are coming off a wheat field and headed to roost in flocks of fifty to a hundred birds. Mostly morning doves this time. At this point Coco would step out a bit and watch the sky. She was on the birds instantly. The sky was peppered with birds a few times and she would just run in circles.. We had a few teal buzz the tank but I didn't have steel shot. Gotta love west Texas

Greatness. Thanks for posting.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Day Three the brothers and their pups were up and at em. Not a hundred yards from our cabins is these huge silos. Right next to the silos is a huge tree with no leaves. We decorated the tree with decoys and took turns shooting from up there. It was so cool you could see birds from way off. We would call down to each other to get ready..our dogs did great and no birds lost. They even did a few really long retreives on winged birds. Those collards pigeons are really tough birds. Me up top and the dogs playing below. Me and Coco working together We want easy on them. My brother in a chef and a good one. He brought breakfast and we were looking forward to it. I cleaned the birds and he cooked it up...dang I should've took a picture. Here's what we had for appetizers before dinner...:)

Greatness. I do love me some GSP. Brother, those are not silos you're shooting from. They are oil tanks and you may blow yourself to kingdome come shooting from there. The fumes are really volatile. Best of luck.

Best of luck. No they were full of wheat. Stinky moldy wheat. I totally get why so many people can't eat gluten after seeing that. There were flaps up top that you could look into.

Ha I have but then it wouldn't be this particular dog. She's got lots of personality. I'll just have to get her a blaze vest:) I never thought I could have a family dog that sleeps in the house and still have a very driven hunting dog. She's both so far. She even plays football with my boy:)

Doesn't seem to be too common in GSPs but they are out there.
Curious where you got her from.

Curious where you got her from. Everyone of them that I have owned has been like that. Great looking pup BTW...
