Took my dog for her first duck hunt this morning.
Wasn't sure how it'd go as a hunt is different than any training scenarios, hunt tests, etc. no matter how realistic you try to make it.
Turned out that she did great though. I spent the first 30 minutes not shooting and just making sure she was steady, quiet etc but was able to shoot no problem after that. The guide brought a dog to work with and my dog honored his retrieves, waited quietly (mostly), was steady to shot, and delivered to hand. She also picked up a few cripples which was great because that's something that we haven't trained with a lot.
We need to keep working on blinds as she struggled a bit because pretty much every blind involved running past a previous mark, but overall I can't complain. Have one very happy and tired (and absolutely filthy/muddy) lab at home now
It was a slow day but all 3 of us ended up 1 short of a limit.
