Ok, I just got on a deer lease this week, BUT I start an outtage next week. Due to work and other things I have to do before the outtage starts I wont be able to get to the lease until about mid- October. With that being said, my spot is rough.... no cleared, lanes, no feeders, no stands, etc. My question is when do you think it will be too late to get set up? I have already accepted the fact that I will probably just have to throw some corn on the ground and hunt from a ladder/climber until next season.

Find a food source and/or water the deer are using on the ranch and set a stand up there. They are not waiting on your feeder to eat everyday. Build a ground blind out of brush also in a good area. Hand corn the area every chance you get. It is never to late to IMO, rather IME the first time in to hunt a location is one of the best hunts due to lack of human activity.

I would say the day after the season is the first day that you would be too late. If you have a spot on a lease get out there and hunt au natural if you have to. I have always found that being in the woods is the first requirement for killing a deer. If you are in the woods, your chances increase exponentially.

I helped set up a tri-pod stand and feeder and hunted it the next day to take a doe. I don't think it's really too late to ever set one up. The only problem I can see is you don't really know what is moving where on a new lease. If you have a high spot with good view you might sit there a couple of mornings and just see what's moving. That might help you decide where to put a feeder and stand(s).

I've killed quite a few deer just sitting on the ground in a likely spot. If you have a blind, set it up. Like Bbear, I've put up stands and killed out of them the next day. Good luck!

You can draw deer in the first day with corn. Just throw some out were you want to hunt the night before and there's a good chance that you will see something in the morning.

Never too late to get started. Just do it when you can. As others have said, I've had good success the day of setting up a new set. Surprise on first/second day is best opportunity.

Some of our biggest deer we have on camera are at random locations, dump a sack of feed and put a camera on it.

Never too late. We were not seeing anything one year so I put a pop-up in an area after Christmas. I liked the spot and got a doe that day. I put a permanent stand and feeder there answer taken a few good bucks and always see deer.
