Now that more folks are running cameras, I was wondering what everyone is seeing as far as antler growth from this year compared to the last couple of years? Most of Texas has seen better rain in the Spring and late Summer the last couple of years, so I would think it was safe to assume that the antlers have improved.

Are your TC's showing this to be true yet? Is there a certain age group that seems to have made better jumps than others?

All it took here was to show the deer a DD Feed label and they all got better. To heck with rain, food plots, protein for the last 4 yrs or the simple fact they are all a year older.
Yes the deer here are better this year than in the past. It rained almost 45" last year and close to 30" this year so far. Nothing trumps age and a great rainfall year(s).

We've had continued growth..4yo crop of bucks don't know what rough times are and it's showing in the older ones.

Bigger jumps in the 3-4yo's than years past or pretty much the same? The older ones seem to make a good rebound from the drought when they were young?

We are finally getting back to pre drought deer numbers, as long as another one doesn't hit the next couple years are looking up.

The drought and loss of numbers actually helped us get the population back closer to where it needed to be. We have had a hard time killing the number of deer that need to be killed to maintain the numbers year to year. Going to be the same this year, as there are a lot of twins and a few triplets I have already been seeing.

Bigger jumps across the board than the norm. I had one middle aged buck get bigger even though he totaled out a truck at Christmas.

The deer here look better by age classes this year than in past years. I will have to see some bucks in person to tell just what they are from last year or years past. I have seen TC pics from some other places that has some bucks blowing up this year and others dropping back a bit on the same ranches. Those ranches missed the late winter and spring rains though. The rut was really hard on the bucks with lack of rainfall during that time frame.

I think the other thing to notice is that the mature age classes are filling out too. The last couple of years saw few mature deer for me, but fawns from the end of the drought are now 3 and 4, depending on area. I believe mature deer sightings are going to go way up, at least in my neck of the woods.

I haven't been able to check my cameras the last few visits to the lease, my time has been tied up helping my buddy get his setup going...so I'm still kind of in the dark. But the browse is lush and green, so I'm not really expecting too much activity at the feeders anyways. But I am anxious to check the cameras that I have on trails deep in the woods

Had a couple standout bucks last year already that had a lot of headgear for their age. Shot our biggest bodied and scoring buck last year. Had several on cameras that if they are still alive will be bigger than the biggest we shot last year. The good conditions are smiling on our deer.

We had a month or so long dry bit in early/mid summer, I'm not sure how it will affect the growth this year. They had protein available and going into the dry the brows/native growth was in incredible condition.

Sure hope it all holds and we have a great year.

Have some great young deer on camera. A couple mature deer from last year that have gotten better and a couple more middle-aged that stayed the same. Not seeing many mature deer around the feeders right now but the country in NE Webb Co. is in incredible condition.

Been hearing that from a lot of people. Range conditions are keeping the mature deer away and a lot of people are having feed pile up. Good problem to have and will make the late season more interesting IMO.

Seems like our 3-4yo are doing better than the other age groups. They haven't seen the hard times that the older bucks have and the older age classes suffered through some tough off seasons at an early age. I was just curious if with a few good years if they would be able to catch back up. From what I have seen, they aren't doing near as well as the ones that grew up with good conditions.

About the only pics I have of deer this year have come from the protein feeders. I'm hardly getting any pics at my two corn feeders other than pigs. I have a spot that I hand corn and it has a few regular deer but they are young this year. From what I have seen at the protein feeders we have several nice mature deer. Just hope they mess up and follow some does to a corn feeder around the rut.

Only had one round of pics and they were mostly pigs. Was able to get a few bucks on camera the weekend we got the rest of the cameras going but not enough to gauge anything from.

Will probably be making a game time decision when I get to the lease 2nd weekend of bow season as to which one I will target
