I dropped off a Sika buck to Bradley Garcia at Texas Big Game Processing in February of 2014 in the After Hours dropoff. He had previously done 3 other shoulder mounts, as well as processing for multiple animals. After a few weeks I received the meat from my Sika, however I still have yet to receive the taxidermy work. I have asked multiple times throughout the process if he still has the animal, and given him multiple opportunities to just shoot me straight and tell me if it's lost, missing, anything to set the record straight. Instead he has strung me along with empty promises including the latest; that the buck was finished and hanging on the wall in his shop. Even though it was "finished", he somehow couldn't make it by there Friday morning when I was passing through San Antonio so that I could pick it up. I went by the shop anyway, and could see clearly inside the shop through the glass, and although there were other mounts on the wall, and others in progress, there was no Sika. He has lied many times throughout the process, not only about the progress being made, but about things like when he sees/reads text messages, since the idiot apparently doesn't realize he has his iPhone set to show "read receipts".
My question is this...what recourse do I have to reclaim my property? I assume I could go to small claims court, but would that need to be filed in San Antonio? Is this something I could contact a State Agency? I have tried to remain very calm and civil about this entire matter, which is very difficult for me to do, but I want my animal and so far I have done a good job of it. It's time to accelerate the process however, and I don't want to just show up on his doorstep. I'm not the person that could handle that situation in the right way. What else can I do?

Sorry to hear that. Dealing with other peoples issues is always challenging. I hope you get your buck back.
No advise other than document everything you have done and all communication well. I would just call him on the phone and point blank ask him what happened, why, and how he plans to rectify it. Keep giving him chances if you get ugly he will just be non responsive. I would guess small claims probably won't get you your buck back either way..

He was evicted from the location on Nakoma, and opened a new one in Adkins, TX which is basically San Antonio, just outside loop 1604. That's the location he's operating out of now, and the one I stopped by on Friday AM.

I would have thought about using them had I not read this.

I hope you have better luck than I had with Robert Lewis down here in Laredo.
He had about 6-7 of my animals when he packed up in the middle of the night and took off. I hear there's bounties on him at this point with the amount of deer he stole.

I think your best plan from here is filing in Small Claims court. You can do so for very little cost and you don't need an attorney on this one.
At lease you can get a lean on anything that holds title that he owns. Kicking his a$$ would be a bonus but beside feeling good would be a short term solution with possible long term negatives you would regret.

I had a similar situation with a turkey mount. The guy took for freaking ever! At least 2 years. Actually, I had already relocated and moved off. Then had to go back and get it. I stayed patient, called him multiple times just to stay in his mind and he ended up doing a very good job. I guess everyone has different situations but I was starting to get worried like you and it worked out. Hopefully, it works out for you too.

Yes, a small claims court filing must be done in the County of his residence.
IF you have no documentation that he agreed to 'mount' your animal, then I suspect you'd lose very quickly in court.
Though it can be shown he received the animal (meat resource), processed it and was compensated (consideration exchanged), IF you don't have something stating he agreed to do the taxidermy work, then you might as well give it up (from a legal standpoint).
Of course...you know he is 'stalling' hoping you will just 'go away'.

Where exactly is his shop and what is name of business ? I live a few miles from 1604 and 87 area. There is a new meat processor opened up on FM775 near Centerpoint, I believe the name says CE processors but no one knows anything about them.

The court will recognize intent and verbal contracts between parties involved.

I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like your mount might be long gone. Good luck

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant many taxidermists are. I completely understand that there is a slim profit margin with everybody wanting 1979 prices (try running a hunting operation).
But the basic business rule of NEVER over promise and under deliver is totally lost on many of them.
And here's the kicker, they also don't understand that 90+% of hunters will be patient for good work IF you deal honestly with them.
If they'd just text people back (I understand they can't answer phone calls all day long) and tell them the truth they'd stay out of almost all of their drama.

Text is unprofessional. We don't text our clients at work and if we over promise and under deliver there are monetary ramifications. The problem is the customer has little recourse in the matter.

All I really needed from him is an honest answer and I couldn't even get that. I gave this guy 100% of my processing and taxidermy work for 3 years, then when the BS started, he lost every bit of my work which equates each year to a couple shoulder mounts and 3-4 animals processed. And at the end of day, he's now been put on blast on the THF, BBB, Yelp, and any other internet outlet where a review can be placed for all to see.

Texts are quick, to the point, and leaves a record for cases like this. I reject cell phone calls and then text right back. "Hey whatcha got"
