Hello all,

My name is Joon. I am Korean-American. Raised in Houston Texas.
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for this, if not, please do point out where I can go for this.
I am new at hunting and I don't know must about it as far as experience goes. I've watch tons of videos and read what I could online and stuff.
I have shot a lot, probable not as much as most of you. Most of the time I'm on a budget so...
Anyways, I'm looking for a hunting buddy. Someone that could be a mentor and kinda show me thing or two. Take me hunting or go hunting with me.
Unfortunately, I can't offer you money. I wish I could, but yeah. I will pay for whatever that I need to hunt though.
If you have some free time and knowledge to pass on, please let me know.
I have gone hunting four times by now, and weren't able to harvest anything. Went dove hunting three times to a public hunting location, and I couldn't find a dove to save my life. I did find a hog though. Or I should say, it found me. It got to about 20 yards away from me, but I couldn't shoot it. All I had on me were bird shots, and the rule of the establishment only allowed bird shoots. haha. Went Hog hunting yesterday at a farm, but I couldn't see any hogs. I did see some doves though. Haha. $100 down the drain.
Anyways, I understand that this really odd request. I don't know where to turn to really. None of my friends hunt, let alone shows interest in hunting. Please advise.

I have a compound bow, Bolt action 308, AR-15 556, 9MM pistol, S&W gov and a semi auto shotgun.
Would love to hunt: birds, deer, hogs and pretty much anything that's a good hunt, and edible. haha.

Joon,

I am new here as well and I am in Houston. I am also looking for a hunting partner. I've been out the past 3 seasons now and have not seen anything myself but other hunters have taken pigs and deer. Deer camp is fun but I am ready for game. I realize there is much to learn. Also there is a lot of work year round to keep the land, feeders and stands in shape. Send me your contact info via PM and I will give you a call. I am near HWY 6 and I-10.

Welcome to hunting...sounds like you are learning one of the most important aspects of hunting....patience. If you just want to enjoy the outdoors/woods, squirrel hunting is going to start in a few weeks. They are a lot of fun to hunt and gives you the opportunity to learn about some of the public hunting land that's available like the Davy Crockett national forest. It would give you the chance to scout and see if you can find a place to deer hunt as well.

Good luck and welcome!

welcome I've hunted most of my life and I still learn. The fact you are willing to learn puts you ahead of many. There is nothing better than time in the woods to learn the craft. Like Deerhunter61 stated, go squirrel hunting and pay attention to the other animals as you hunt. Good luck.

Is Davy Crockett National Forest better than Sam Houston National Forest? I've been meaning to check out Sam Houston this Thursday after work for some doves...

A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Actually met someone in real life from this forum. Yesterday, went to check out this public dove hunting place with him, AND GOT MY FIRST KILL!! haha.
I couldn't retrieve the dang bird. We knew where it dropped (under the tree), and we searched for like 20 minute. Until we kicked a hornet's nest. haha We got out of there ASAP.
I had a "BLAST". haha

I don't think either national forest is really known for dove hunting - regardless you may be able to bag a few. The APH gets you special access to land for dove hunting. Most of which (if not all) are for 1st season only, so keep that in mind. I am also from the Houston area (Sugar Land)) so send me a pm and maybe we could chat some more or talk on the phone about hunting.

New hunter,
I am also from the Houston area (HWy-59 and Hwy-6), and always on the look out for new hunting buddies, as currently I have very few. Let's chat some time!
