All you dog hunters, be careful of the Massasauga RattleSnake. Have a good friend thats a Vet. He told me the antivenom is for Diamondback rattlesnakes not the Massasauga rattler. He also said the Massasauga rattlesnake is making a come back in West Texas. He's already had a few dogs in for snake bite.

They are usually referred to as a prairie rattler. Quite common in north and west Texas.

Prairie Rattler and Massasauga are two different snakes.

Didn't say they were the same. Most people/ranchers that see a Massasauga will refer to it as a prairie rattler.

I have already killed six of these at my house this year including one last night. They are little nasty tempered devils.
Everyone around here calls them ground rattlers and they love flower beds and patios.
They also have tiny rattlers that you can barely hear if you can at all.

We ran into a biologist studying them at Madator WMA. He was catching Massasauga rattlers, putting radio trackers on them, then turning them loose again. locomad

I tried to get the frequency, but for some reason, he did not want to share.

We all need to practice Whoa more.
