Farmer planted corn. Corn flooded and didn't make very good. Farmer is claiming on insurance and has not harvested anything to date. Water is flooded back up into some of the corn. Teal everywhere. Is it baited?

No, if it's still standing. I've seen them hunt ducks in flooded corn on TV

No. Unless you manipulate it in any manner that is outside of natural agricultural practices.

When getting the birds be sure not to knock down any of the stalks, some GW's will consider that baiting, same goes for the dog, real silly gray area. I am sure if fought in court it will be dismissed.

Call the local GW in your area if he or she is civil they will be straight with you! unlike some guys last year outside of
Katy area, were slammed with 2100$ fines on teal season last year...... they threw down corn and milo in givien areas.....

kinda hard to beat that charge.....

Me, i would not hunt that area...... not worth my time and money for the hassle......

gud luck.....

HUNT IT! this is no different than purposely planting it, and then pumping water on it ten days before the season. the only thing you have to watch on insurance crops is in some instances when they disc the crops under as discing a pretty mauture grain crop is not a normal practice. and hogflyer, people throwing grain out of a sack in no shape form or fashion compares to hunting a standing crop that is NOT manipulated that has been flooded.

Discing the crop under is required to collect crop insurance, so it is normal ag practice. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just ask local game warden. Document fields prior to hunt. Photograph fields. get a handwritten note from landowner that explains history of this seasons corn crop. Look on internet and get weather history to substantiate the crop history. Photograph adjacent fields.....

There is no need to get a game warddn after you! Not worth it! Better off communicating, being open, being honest....

Definitely not baited. I had several milo fields that were flooded a couple years ago during teal season. It falls under normal agricultural practice. The GW in my area confirmed. Same as when we plant milo and insure it if the crop is not good, then bail it or shred it to bail it and hunt over it. Falls under normal ag practice. Get after it!

just don't drive right through it before you hunt and your good... Usually attitude determines those grey area tickets that you hear about...

You can hunt it as long as you do not manipulate it, like YOU or whoever else is hunting do not go walking through there just the dog and the dog only should be able to go in there from my understanding. You can knock a couple stalks down by accident then that's considered manipulation of the crop. Got slammed this year with a baiting fine for hunting 150 yards away from a deer feeder for dove that were not even feeding on the corn in our area. Talk to your local GW to clear all up so that he does know that you are going in there to hunt them and that will ease a lot for you.

Hunt it. Tell the game warden to pound sand if he tries to write you up for it. Maybe take along an extra shotgun and ask if he/she wants to join and get a quick limit. As long as you don't go walking through there intentionally knocking down stalks, you'll be fine.

Just follow the rules and GW Can't touch you. We pay them to do this so we all have good hunting.

You are perfectly fine.

Here we hunt A LOT of flooded rice. It's still a crop just like your corn and right now second crop is heading out producing heads. Sometimes you have to drive a tractor or 4 wheeler through the water and rice to get to your spot. Nothing illegal here. Granted you don't try to knock down the grain on purpose, but sometimes you just can't help it. Lots of grain from the first cutting laying in the water and that floated up to the banks, all still perfectly fine.

Insurance wise you're still good. For a failed crop you have to harvest what you got, shred it, graze it, or plow/disc it under. It just has to be destroyed. Everything you're doing is normal ag practice. Just because the Good Lord threw some water your way doesn't mean normal ag practices went out the window. Normally after a claim is made the crop insurance company wants you to get rid of it fairly quickly so they can close out the paper work. But as there is standing water there, there's not much the farmer can do at this point. Rock and roll!
