Anyone own/shot this gun? For a budget starter gun, it looks pretty good.

Has adjustable trigger, etc.

Any comments reviews of it would be great.

thanks

There is charlesb's review and Randy Wakeman's. I would definitely purchase one.

There is one thing to look out for with the Patriot. There is a plastic piece in the stock that holds the magazine, and helps bed the action. It works very well, but you must be careful not to over-tighten the action screws, as the plastic piece will then be spread out by the round action, placing the stock under a strain at the sides that could lead to stock damage. (cracking) This is only if you get really serious about over-tightening the action screws though.

Use thread-locker on the action screws and have them moderately tight, but nowhere near as tight as you can get them and you will have no problems.

Once you have the trigger adjusted to your taste, there is really no reason to remove the action from the stock, in any case. When you do, there is just this one thing that you have to look out for.

The Patriot really is a nice gun, much better-looking than anything else in the same price bracket.

Kind regards, charlesb

Sorry for being ignorant...but what is the action screw? I just want to know what you are talking about if I get this gun.

ALso, where do you guys rank this gun vs a Savage Axis II?

Sorry. The actions screws are on the bottom, they are what fastens the rifle's barreled action to the stock.

There's generally no need to fool with them if you are not going to adjust the trigger, or something like that. If the trigger feels pretty good, I'd leave it like it is.

Kind regards, charlesb

For me it is a much better firearm than an Axis II.

I want one. Academy has them scoped for around 329 I think.
Prefer non scoped and add a vortex crossfire.
I think that would make a good little inexpensive shooter.

Vortex really? I just assumed it was a no name 3x9.
Those scopes impress me for the money and would be great on that rifle for my purposes.

I had one in 308 and worked great. Don't buy the axis. If can swing around $450 can buy savage hog Hunter or couple other savages in that range

A much better gun with less plastic than what Remington and others are selling at that price point. And unlike the others, it comes with a free floated barrel.

On the down side, not the quality of workmanship you see in higher-priced rifles. However, that probably makes it a good choice for a knockabout gun.

Got the gun...the model that's $330ish doesn't come with a vortex scope.

I'll be upgrading soon

Sooooo how is it?
I just picked one up in 22-250. Will be adding a Crossfire II 4x12. Also in the marker for Lee pacesetter and 53 grain Vmax to start with.

I thought that the Patriot chambered in 338 Win Mag or 375 Ruger would make a good nilgai rifle, great price for a gun that really would not get shot much.
