Are you saying your trying to feed protein through a regular spin feeder? In my personal experience, this rarely works out well long term, but to maximize your chances you might try:
a) metal barrel, well sealed b) slip-on metal lid, NOT a clamp lid (protein needs to breathe) c) minimum 2" down spout at your funnel d) Eliminator plate which seals up against bottom of down spout will work out well.
Even all these things are no guarantee. All it takes is a little bit of moisture getting in the feed, or an infestation of mites or weevils for things to clog up.

I have fed protein for years in the 90's out of spin feeders well before eliminator spinner plates. I put an agitator on the spinner plate that extended up into the feeder downspout/funnel for 2"+. It contacted the pellets to break them apart if they bridged up. You need a 2" downspout/funnel opening for it work the best, but I have done it with smaller openings on the old spincast feeders. All pellets are made with a binder/binding agent to make them stay a pellet. Depending on the agent, they will wick in moisture. Then the pellet will swell up when air is damp or moist. They swell up and then when they dry out they stick back together bridging up in the opening above the spinner plate. Can still happen with an eliminator plate in very humid, damp or rainy areas. The moisture wicks inside the feeder if the feed is not flowing regularly. Feed on the very top as it feeds out needs to move at least twice a day to keep from molding. I always used the galvanized or loose fitting poly lids like posted above. I also added small self tapping screw about 6-8" apart around the top on top the lip of the drum opening. That gave the lid a gap for air space and ventilation.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

I had a guy tell me that if you mix protein feed with corn (2/3 corn - 1/3 protein), that you could run it out of a spin feeder without problems all year long. Is this true?
