Obviously not ideal but I have no desire to own a boat that ill rarely if ever use. My thought was buying a kayak to duck hunt from. Quiet to get where I'm going and get in places a lot of boats wouldn't go. Anyone use a kayak to get to and from duck hunting?

There are a few other threads on this you can find, but here's my $0.02:

Kayaks are OK for getting you and the bare essentials to a shallow and secluded spot. I would caution against hunting "out of" it. I ran one last year and it was fun, but now I have a dog and will use a canoe this season. I'm looking forward to carrying more gear and a hunting partner as well. I'm on the lookout for a tiny used 2-stroke and then I'll really be able to go farther with more stuff than last year.

Haven't been a big duck hunter but being able to hunt public lakes makes it an easy way to get out on a day off and not make an entire day out of it. I've always walked in and out which if fine til you gotta go retrieve a bird. Don't have a dog and won't have one trained this year so just looking at ideas.

We take our boat with a kayak in it. Hide the boat 4-500 yards away and kayak in. Much easier to hide the kayak than the boat.

A kayak will work great at getting you too and from your spot if you only have a small amount of gear. I personally prefer a canoe. You can get a 9 foot kayak paddle from Mohawk paddles for real cheap that is designed for use with a canoe.

But yes many people use kayaks for duck hunting. Look at native watercraft ultimate series.

I have used a kayak a lot. I will also say that there is only one spot I have ever been that a boat couldn't get to. Usually a kayak is a slow way to get to the same spots guys with mudmotors or airboats can get to before you. It is a relatively cheap way, though.

That's my fear with a smaller boat, being out there and a boat comes flying past.

It will get you where you need to go and where others cannot. Make sure you wear a life jacket and plan according to the wind.
