I've heard not to water your dogs at stock tanks cause of bacteria.

Took my dog dove hunting. She's 11 months old. We've only ever quail hunted. That was always in cool weather. I got to the lease at 6pm on Saterday and was seeing lots of quail so I let her find some before the dove hunt. She did good despite the heat there was a good breeze.

Then I brought her to the dove field and the action was fast. She instantly knew how to retrieve. I worked with her all summer with bumpers. Boy she does not like holding the doves though. She mostly likes chasing them and She even lost a few cause she would drop them and take off if I or someone else shot while she was returning with a bird. I had plenty of water for her but it was really hot and she kept taking off at every shot chasing under birds. She did a few really really long retrieves on birds that ran out of steam 3 or 4 hundred yards away. She did fine that first evening.
Sunday I started at first light and hunted till 11. Then returned at 4:30 to hunt again. That evening there was no breeze. I was watering her out of a small cooler. It has a small compartment on the top for a snack but works perfect for watering your dog. Somehow the cooler tipped over and I lost all the water I had. Then the dove action really picked up and she did 4 back to back retrieves. I knew she needed water so I headed back to the truck for more. It didn't seem to bad but her tongue was hanging. That night she was super lethargic and wasn't with it. I thought she'd be fine and just needed rest. I kept bringing her water all night and shed drink small amounts every time. We left her in the cabin and hunted two hours in the morning and she still hadn't recovered. Tonight she finally snapped out of it. Poor girl, I feel awful. I just want to say to everyone to watch your dog close and if it's breathing hard with it's tongue hanging low you need to call it a day. Alway have water with you. I Am so lucky and thankful she pulled through.

I was gonna say the same thing, no way you are stopping one of mine from drinking out of a tank when they are thirsty. I have seen them drink from places I wish they hadn't, but have never had a problem. They like to cool that belly.

I take an big ice chest full of water so they can jump in and cool off all the time
need to keep there leg and belly wet

She's much better now but still not totally herself. I like the sprayer idea I'll defiantly drop on in my rig next weekend.
