The entire turkey population was decimated and/or evacuated across the river in the 32,000 acre fire in 2011. With no more forest, they were not in a hurry to come back.

Last year I heard a few in the hills and ravines in back of me, but didn't see any until yesterday. This little gang showed up in my backyard and hung out until I got spotted by getting too close to the window to take these pictures.

It does my heart good to see them again!
