We'll the guy nxt to my uncles place has never leased before. Which I always like untell now. Don't kno anything about the guys he leased to just kno we been growing some good bucks. What would be the best way of going about talking to them about not shooting young deer? Are killing everything that moves. I kno once a deer jumps the fence it their choice just 5 years of passing bout to go out the window I'm afraid.

I would just get in contact with them and start up a conversation. You might leave a note at their gate with your contact info. See what their goals are before you start accusing them on something. They may be management minded. You might show them some pictures of what y'all have been letting walk and what they have turned into. Who knows might be the start of a great relationship. Like you said nothing you can do once they jump the fence and if you start shooting stuff based on what the neighbors might shoot then you just became "that neighbor." My

That's life. I'd leave them alone. Good chance they're gonna take it as you telling them how to do it. If there's a chance, or opportunity to talk to them, then by all means, try to establish a relationship with them, but I wouldn't bring up y'all's management goals, etc. until a later conversation. Chances are very slim y'all are gonna agree on exactly what a management and/or cull buck is, what a mature trophy is, etc.
It's like when you move into a house and there's always that one neighbor that comes over and tells you "what you oughta do...". Don't be that guy.

I would let it be like creek runner said. If you were worried about how the property next to you is hunted why didn't you guys lease it?

I second Creek's sound advisement, don't be that know it all and advise it all. Should some casual mutual conversation occur regarding harvest goals, etc. then by all means have at it..

I am surrounded by leased land on three sides of my place. I used to worry about what they were doing, but now I just carry on as if they are are not hunted. The new lease hunters may not even hunt much and/or hopefully are management minded. Make your place as appealing to the deer as possible and hope for the best. I feel your pain, but my hunting is more enjoyable since I stopped worrying about what my neighbors are shooting.

You can probably find out what they are like through normal conversation about hunting. Hopefully they'll not setup feeders on your fence at the very least...

Each deer lease is operated by hunters with their own idea of how many deer there are...if some see three deer they believe they have a bunch...lol. Some dont care ....they use all doe permits provided by P&W and take as all legal bucks by themselves, guests, and family members. This type will shoot out your area in a short time. None of these guys want to hear from a neighbor thinking they know more than GOD on hunting. I suggest to go over and introduce yourself and try to be friendly, offer any help they might need. This is ALL you can do. Learning hunters I have found that if a hunter needs two deer for sausage and all year long see only two deer ....they will harvest those two deer. they will get their moneys worth. However ...if they are seasoned hunters and want to manage, they will let you know right away as they also want you to manage the heard. Rest assured...everyone has different ideas on management practices. Good luck which hunters you will have...my guess they will harvest many of those bucks you are seeing. I also suggest you begin to count your heard so later you might be able to reason with the other hunters when your numbers begin to fall. Even at that, they may still not want to hear from anyone on management...they paid their money...probably a lot as leases are very expensive. good luck

I've found most hunters are looking to manage or at least be selective in their harvest. I would just go visit with them and I would bet it just comes up in the conversation. I know the fellas that lease the land adjacent to the land we just bought were real eager to let us know how they have been selective in harvest in hopes we were of the same mind set.
But if they aren't, think not less of them. Just because they aren't trophy minded doesn't mean they are less of hunters.

I would think you can get a good idea by asking your uncle the questions they asked about leasing from him.

Surely your uncle has a relationship with his neighbor. That might be a could place to see what the guys are like. If you're uncle doesn't have a relationship with a neighbor, then making your making assumptions about the wrong people. As Creek Runner said, let it go unless you guys meet one another and then start a dialogue with them about management, goals, etc.

I had to put up 2.7 miles of game fence because of a horrible neighbor. Hope your situation turns out better.
