Guys
Do any of you put something on the ground inside like indoor outdoor carpet? I'm thinking about it for two reasons, snakes and my chair.
Thanks Mel

I just clear the ground to bare dirt. Has worked for me, but where I used it there weren't that many snakes. Always scan with a flashlight bf you walk in.

I always rake the ground as good as I can. I try to get to the dirt if at all possible. IMO, the carpet is one more thing to make noise. I always scan with a flashlight as well.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

I don't like carpet as another place for critters to hide. I weedeat the grass low, then pop up. Never had a problem, and leaving a little grass keeps it from getting too muddy if it rains. Like others have said, I unzip the door, and peer in with a flashlight before climbing inside. Haven't ever had a problem, but would seem to be a good place for snakes during bow season.

A guy I hunted with built a small wooden platform to elevate his blind a few feet, but he was rifle hunting. That'd probably be too loud for bow but its something to consider

I clear the ground and place the popup over the cleared ground. I try to pile dirt up around the sides of the blind to discourage anything wanting to crawl in. Carpet is just a good hiding place for spiders, snakes and scorpions. If you are really concerned about snakes maybe buy some 8" aluminum flashing from the hardware store and line the inner wall with it.
Sounds like you might want to invest in some snake leggins as well!

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

watched BEAR the other night, he spread ashes around his camp sight, claims snakes or scorpions won't cross. never heard of it, won't be feasible for your set up.
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

Nothing will keep a snake out of a pop up if they want in, snake boots or snake legs are a good idea, like said above, clear the ground to dirt and check before entering. It's all a part of the game we choose to play.

I learned this one the hard way...
Deer can hear those little sticks breaking inside the blind from further away than you would think...
So I rake mine out now.
Adult late onset hunter. Why did I wait so long to get started?

Yeah I had a rattler sneak in my ground blind a couple years ago between the morning hunt and when I arrived that evening. I was not prepared or even careful when stepping in. Lucky for me he struck my boot and I was not harmed other than my heart skipping several beats. I walked in and sat down in my chair before he started rattling. I froze for a second because I didn't know what to do and did not have my pistol on me. When I attempted to jump up he struck my boot. I tossed my chair on him then unzipped the blind and got out. I then destroyed him with a big stick

Funny enough I read this thread a couple of weeks ago and thought "I sure am glad I've never had a snake in a popup blind, even after leaving some up for a full season on multiple occassions. Well wouldn't you know it, I went to finish staking down my popup on Sunday that I had put up the week before, and found a copperhead hiding in the corner! It was early evening and I didn't see him until I was already inside the blind - glad I always wear my snakeboots. Found a long stick, grabbed my hatchet, and "evicted" him from the premises (and from his head). Will ALWAYS check first with flashlight from now on!

Trying this route this year to see how I like it. Landscape blocker (cheap) lining the bottom of the blind. They have some big staples made specifically for pinning this stuff to the ground that were used. I will cut some of this to also lay around the outer edge and use dirt/rocks to create a barrier to keep the undesirables out. It's more of a foamy material instead of plastic and seems very quiet. Also allows any moisture to penetrate through to the ground.
