Generally it's been mid thru late November. I typically only get to hunt weekends due to work, so I broke it down into weekends from my observations over the past few years.

-2013 the bucks were running the girls pretty good opening weekend (Opening day November 1st I shot a main frame 8 that was running does hard)
-2014 they were still sticking to their bachelor groups opening weekend and just barely starting to chase 2nd weekend, but wasn't full on rut (I have pics from November 8th of bachelor groups)
-2015 2nd weekend the bucks were on the prowl, but the girls weren't quite in yet.

I live in Freestone county and observe deer everyday of the week working cows and doing ranch work. The 2nd week of October has been the start of the rut in this county forever. I saw the first fawn this year the 3rd week of April so that would put the bred date the second week of October. All our does had dropped fawns by the end of May so that will give you a idea of when the rut is here. End of May birth date would be a bred date of 2nd week of November.

44carbine, I updated my previous post with the November dates from the last few years(except 2015 due to not keeping very good record last year unfortunately). I'm going to venture to say your October dates could be the does previous estrous cycles? Fortunately we'll get to hunt October this year as we're going MLD 3 and I plan to keep a better record of how things are going.

Most of East Texas the rut starts in mid-October. If you don't bow hunt you've missed the majority of the rut. Gun hunters are starting as it's winding down.

yep, the second estrus cycle is usually what most people call "the rut" ... the first cycle is typically in Oct. (in most areas I have hunted, central & west) but the bucks are still in bachelor groups and not many of the does will get bred during that first cycle. That first cycle also is what breaks up the bachelor groups. One of my uncles used to start going out sitting in his tree stand the first of Oct. every day after work, when he saw the first sign of chasing going on, he would go home and mark out 28 days later (in Nov.) and wouldn't even go into the woods hunting until that 28 day came around. That was typically around mid Nov. when deer season opened (used to open 1st Sat. after Nov. 16).
