What does every one use for bait in the trap, Last year we used corn, water, beer and let it fermat (spelling?) We did not trap a hog

Also how close is to close to a feeder, very few deer visit the feeder, mainly hogs at night

Also maybe tie the trap door so it stays open for a while that way the pigs get use to going in and then when you do set the trap bam they are done.

Used a bunch of expired pasties last year and it worked fine, but plain old corn is great. Good the pastries for free so had to try.

I have no idea why these would work or why you have a bunch of them, but my hat is off to you for trying new things.

Didn't know pasties expired. Did you get them from an old stripper?

Some hogs are 'modest', you should know that by now. wink

But I am curious why a man would have a bunch of 'pasties' around?

It takes a lot of pasties too. Each sow needs 8 to be properly covered.

Where I hunt the land owner swears by cantaloupe.
Cut in quarters, into a trash bag for a day to "get right"

Plain ole corn. Now that the weather is cooling off, we are starting to bait traps with the gates tied open. Last week we did add some cow protein pellets. When we last checked the trap, the hogs moved it about 10ft. Doubt the protein made any difference.

I have tried just about every kind of "miracle" bait and always just use corn. I have had good luck with mixing dry jello in just to add a sweet smell.

About 20 years ago, I remember the first time we soured corn. We mixed everything we could think in a 55gal trash can and let it set a couple weeks. It was the nastiest crap I've ever smelt and will never do that again. 1. You have to load it somehow. 2. Then you have to unload it. When we unloaded it, we spilled it on us and I immediately started puking. I striped down and jumped into a creek to wash off. Threw my clothes in the back of the truck and headed back to town to get some more clothes. Don't think anything ever touched it.

Headed down this weekend for dove season and hope to catch a few while we are there.

I know guys that use pumpkins up in the panhandle. You should see the damage the hogs will do in a pumpkin patch. They will trash a full field in a night.

3 years in a row, I bought leftover pumpkins from the vendor at the church. 3 years in a row, I watched them rot. Nothing wanted anything to do with pumpkins here in north Texas. My guess is that hogs will eat them if they have NOTHING else to choose from, but otherwise won't eat them.

Quarters? Not thirds or sixths? LOL.

Fruit is a good choice. Everything loves watermelons. The problem you may have is everything else trying to eat sweet fruits, potentially before the hogs arrive.

The trap has small enough mesh coons and 'possums get caught in the hog trap.
They are chicken killers so trapping them is good too..

Powdered jello mix or koolade mix. The berry flavors usually work well. Sprinkle on corn or on the ground.

I agree with the plain corn being adequate... texas

Tried lots of stuff. Good ole corn works the best.

I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

Corn as others have said. I also use hog wild liquid attractant. Can't say if it makes a difference but I was like 9 for 10 on trapping last year using it and corn.
