Sept 8-18, Cabelas is selling their Rem 700 ADL Varmint (26" HB) for $399, and it has a $50 mail in rebate, for a total of $349 plus TTL. Caliber choices are .223, .22-250, and .308.

Thanks for the heads up. I might try and pick up a 22-250. You can barely buy an action for $350 so that's a pretty good deal.

If anyone ends up picking one of these up, would you mind letting us know what calibers? I know the ad mentions 22-250, 223, 308 but Remington makes that gun in 243 as well I believe. I wouldn't mind a 243.

I'm picking up a 22-250 this afternoon eek Planning to pull the barreled action and drop into a Grayboe Renegade. It'll be awhile as funds are tight right now. Excited to try such a fast round and $350 aint bad. Plus I know its one of FGs favorite rounds.

BTW, Dicks has their 700 Varmint ADLs on sale for $479. They have the same cheapo stock but in camo and also comes with cheap base, rings, and an unbranded scope.

There was a 22-250 I had on hold at Allen store yesterday. Called them later and told em I couldnt make it up yesterday and to put back on the shelf for someone else. You can order them online at $399 and ship free to store so thats what I did and it'll be ready for me to pickup in 5-8 days.

Could this barrel be cut down to 22"? Never had that done, curious if twist would work out with that length for the .308. Seems like that, along with a trigger and stock you'd be good.

I'm not sure I understand.

You can cut a barrel down to 16" without a tax stamp. Twist has nothing to do with will it "work out" for barrel length. Shortening a barrel means velocity loss, but that doesn't mean it'll start shooting larger groups. The opposite is often true, short barrel is stiff barrel, stiff barrel is less picky about ammo.

That answered that, thanks. Who's a good gunsmith for work like this?

Morgan with Dallas Shooting Supply is a member here. Never a bad word said about him. Cutting down a barrel is child's play for gun smiths.

Yeah the 26" seems a little extreme and I was contemplating cutting down as well.
