This morning, I was roading my hounds north of Menard when I just happened to be watching Flo, a 12 month old gyp that is doing really well. She is a little dog, 33-34 pounds and quicker than a hiccup. All of a sudden she jumped sideways and contorted her body in a strange fashion and then I saw a flash of the rattler's yellow belly. I knew that she must have been bitten so I sped up and scolded the other dogs to make sure that not near the snake.
Miraculously, she somehow avoided the strike and I was able to keep hunting. To be honest, after seeing that snake and how aggressive he was, decided to stay out of the heavier mesquite and prickly pear. This morning it broke clear after being cool most of the night and it just felt like the snakes might have been moving.
