How would you choose between these 3 bullets, All the same weight? Nosler Accubond, Hornady Interlock BTSP, Sierra Spitzer BT. Would accuracy, velocity, or toughness be the deciding factor?
Thanks

Will all perform well on live tissue?
If so, then the one with the highest BC.

If they were all the same weight the velocity would be nearly equal. So that leaves accuracy bullet construction and as Fireman noted BC. You did not note what weight bullets. If I were loading for a 30-06 I would probably choose 178gr ELDX

I don't think that was an option, Buzz.

For elk with an 06, I'd pick a 180gr, and select the Accubond first, the Hornady second, and the Sierra third.

For elk with an 06, I'd pick a 180gr, and select the Accubond first, the Hornady second, and the Sierra third. This... For elk, I would choose tough first. Accuracy obviously needs to be there, but that can be tweaked if you reload. And for elk, what kind of accuracy are you chasing? Everyone wants a 1/4 MOA load, but if your rifle shoots a cup and core bullet 1 MOA, and a bonded bullet 1 1/2 MOA, I'll take the bonded for elk any day. Velocity is just icing on the cake. Within reasonable distances, any '06 load with the right bullet should carry plenty of ft lbs to cleanly take an elk. You can enter your bullet data and velocity into a ballistics calculator to see what your energy will be at a given distance.

+1 on what JJH said in that order...next ? is what bullet weight ...180 is the default answer in those C&C style bullets, but 200's are bigtime bad medicine, even in a 30'06. Ron

I have been disappointed with hornady interlocks in 150 grain 270, 154 grain 280 and 200 and 220 grain 300 wby. All have had decent to great accuracy but all have sporadically disintegrated and turned to shrapnel with no exit wounds on texas WT's and hogs.
My first pick would be Acubond, second sierra, wouldn't load an interlock for elk.

After seeing what Accubond bullets do to 40 head of African plains game, albeit in my 7mm Rem Mag (160gr AB), I'd pick the AB every time.

I will be loading 165's. My wife will be elk hunting with me so in an effort to keep recoil to an acceptable level for her, the 165's at about 2700 FPS should do the job. Outfitter has said 200 yds will be max & most likely 150 or less. I am leaning toward the AB but have not found any locally. Still have time to locate them. Thanks

What about a 150 Barnes TTSX?
Less recoil with higher velocity and the TTSX's penetrate very well. I was dispointed with TSX's not opening sometimes, but the TTSX's have been very consistent.
The Nosler Partition also is available in a 150.

DL lemme find my 30 cal stuff in the still not put away reloading shed and see what I have. I'll PM you a list prolly manana or Thursday. I know I've got more 165's than 180's , and in several configurations. So before you go buy something lets take a look at what I can send you gratis. Dunno when I'll use the 30 cals unless I can pick up a 308 or -06 , as the 300WSM is out on consignment. Still having problems with the friqqen shooting shoulder and don't need the grief in anything over about 20-22ft lbs recoil. Ron

I used the accubonds in my 30-06 for elk before I rebarreled it to a different caliber.

Have ordered lots of bullets from Wideners. Have also bought Nosler blemish and over run bullets from Shootersproshop which now has Nosler overruns of Nosler Accubond 150gr 308 bullets for 19.95 in the 50 count boxes. bullet link

Looked at Nosler's Pro Shop for blem & over runs late last nite...had 30 cal 180gr Partitions for $17.95 a 50ct bag and some other stuff too, that would fit the parameters of this Elk Hunt. Had 30 cal 150gr'ers same thing at less $$'s too, which'd be a great 308 bullet on Elk. I need to go look again, but they had a LRAB's 270 140gr'er at $44xx in 100 ct bags, and something I've always wondered about in 55gr .244 dia FB Sp 's in 100ct at a ridiculously low price....can't say for sure but I saw something like that at $11.95 a bag...just cheap enough to make me think twice about buying a 243 that I don't want or need, as this is not the 1st time I've seen these so super cheap. Aha a new Screen Handle name is born... "Ol Super Cheap"....aka "OSC Ron". Been buying stuff from this outlet store since forever...back when I could get 50 ct 30 cal 180 gr BT's for $6 a bag in cellophane bags and have to call the order in. Costs more bux these days to place an order over the phone to a live hooman being....and the Order Fee with free freight up to 70lbs is still $12 ( from $4 )as I recall, shipped USPS Priority. Ron
