I didn't see where you measured or better yet weighed him....I have pulled a 300 lb hog and either you are Incredible Hulk (you made it look super easy moving that hog) or that hog is closer to 200 than 300.
Nice hog no doubt, and great video, just doubt the veracity of the 300# claim.

At 450 - 500 yards the 60gr 223 is traveling ~ 1500 fps with roughly 500 ft/lbs of energy.
Not a good shot

Nice size pig for sure.
I do have one piece of feedback. Try using a mono pod or shootings sticks to stabilize the rear of the rifle and it should improve video quality, as well as stabilize the shot.
I didn't realize how much I moved my own rifle when just resting on the blind window until I did a few videos. Nothing personal, but watching some of the videos posted here and YouTube almost induce a seizure due to the amount of movement.

Another issue was I had to shoot left handed due to the position of the camera. that is why it took me so long to shoot. I wanted to have a good shot.. And at 180 yards any slight movement is amplified zoomed in. Thanks for the tip!

Not a good shot It was a 182 yard shot.. not 400-500 yards - And yet your first comments are consistantly negative. So I have come to expect nothing less from you. Thanks for consistantly meeting my expectations.

I agree that 300 is probably an over estimate. But way more than 175. We guessed 300 due to the fact on how hard he was to pull out. I have weight hogs in at 225 and were way easier to drag. We could not lift him onto the Polaris, and he was maxing out the hoist which was rated to 300 lbs.

Thanks for consistantly meeting my expectations. At 12 mins into the video you said that you didn't press record on a second large boar that you encountered after downing the first one. You guesstimate "420 yards" and you "took the shot". That's why I threw out the ballistics info for that range - youre asking that 60gr bullet for too much at that distance - in my opinion you saw the result at 187 yards "that 223 bullet didn't do a thing to him" and yet you try for a longer shot??? As for my comments being negative - it comes with the territory when you post videos , it's nothing personal I've never met you and don't know you so don't recieve them as personal. I inject my opinion on what looks like it works and doesn't - the opinions are free you don't have to read them if you ignore me (a feature on the forum). Seems like you could've got some action at night at 7 oaks - any reason for not doing a night hunt?

Seems like you could've got some action at night at 7 oaks - any reason for not doing a night hunt? I would have never taken that shot of a game animal at 400-420 yards, and yes I agree 100% a 400 yard shot on a large hog, a .223 is not effective to do the job. But with a hog I do not mind taking the risk to possible get it away from terrorizing the deer. The only reason we did not stay for a night hunt was that ranch is a 3 hour drive home for me, and my wife worked Sunday so I had the kids. Did not want to be a walking zombie with a 2 year old and a 4 year old. It had already taken us way too long to process that hog out there due to how touch his skin was, was like cutting plywood. I ranged the blind from were I was standing and it was 221 yards, plus the 182 yrads from the blind to the feeder. That's right at 400 yards, the ballistic calculator did its job though, so that's the good news. It compensated for almost a 30 inch drop at that distance.

Hang in there JT. You haven't been hunting for even 3 years yet and just started hunting at night a little more than 6 months ago. When you are still a novice, all pigs look big. LOL... Here is one that weighed 252 and was weighed for a contest.

That picture was taken looking slightly up at the hog hanging up. All the footage in the video is looking at the hog lying on the ground. Just camera perspective...not saying one is bigger than the other but not a "good comparison" by photo necessarily.

I should have taken a photo hanging up standing right next to it instead of in front of it to get the true effect. Either way he was not less than 250. Like I said I have killed a few 225 lbs hogs (actually weighed), and was able to lift them into the Polaris with help. We could not get this one up. But maybe I have gone weak haha. My guess was based off of that information.

Nice choice in footwear for hog hunting.

Are those Chippewa flip flop? Nice Codie in footwear for hog hunting. LOL... No sir, I shot that hog at 3:00 am in the pouring rain. 3 shots in the head and he stopped about 10 yards in front of me. I have his skull on one of my mantels with the 3 holes through it. I got it loaded by myself and back to camp. My boots were caked in mud and felt like they weighed 50 lbs..

I would highly recommend investing in a Primos tripod. It would definitely help you hold the gun steady. Not sure why it was moving so much in the stand anyway. I think most just use the window as a rest. Some sort of muzzle device might help the other shots. It looked like that .223 was giving you all you could handle. I just purchased the Primos Jim Shockey Gen 2 tripod so I can tell you it's a lifesaver when you're walking in fields or just sitting there waiting. If you'll get one of those tape measures that's the soft kind like a tailor uses you can measure the pig and then get an app that will give you a good estimate of what it weighs. It's what we use. It'll help the exaggerations out a lot!

What are the thoughts of the video itself? Good hunt!! But 13+ minute video was long for a simple hunt. The music was much louder than everything else I listen to at the same volume. Honestly, I skipped ahead of most everything except the hunt itself. Also, you showed me why I'm not a fan of using 223 for big pigs. Jump up to the 300 blk out, and you will notice a huge improvement in terminal performance.
