I've heard of using real dogs as decoys but never seen the fake decoys.

Are you talking about an actual coyote looking decoy? I've seen video of them but never used one. Would give the yote something to lock onto as he works the set, so it should only be a help as long as it doesn't flop too much. I've seen yotes run off from an over active decoy.

It may work or may spook the coyote just depends. I have used one but only a couple of times and decided too much trouble plus the fact your are spreading more scent from putting up the decoy and from the scent of the decoy itself.

I have a plastic coyote decoy (named Nancy Pelosi). I guess it looks like a big tough male, because the coyotes that came to it wouldn't come close. They'd stop a couple hundreds yards out and sit down. It didn't save their miserable flea bitten lives, but closer would have been nice. I'd suggest that a wimpy looking coyote decoy might be better than what I have.

Try a smaller stuffed critter. The bigger the decoy, the more you are going to hate lugging it around.

Hang a turkey feather from a tree by a string. Just above the ground or grass so the breeze can move it around. You'll be surprised at what it brings in.
