My stand has been.open for last two years. Very large openings. Got pretty cold a few days.

I added Windows this weekend, did some patching, caulking.

The stand is about 5x5 and elevated about 4 feet. I have a little buddy about 3400 btu and a hunting buddy about 8000 btu.
I want to be warm, but not just hot from the source.
Thoughts.
Last year I put roll of toilet paper in quart paint can, poured alcohol and lit. I heard about this and wanted to try it.

Closed up and Little Buddy should be all you need. L B in a 5x7 will sweat me out.

I've got a 5x6 stand and little buddy makes me take off my coat even on the coldest days.

Just out of curiosity, how'd the toilet paper in the can with alcohol work out? We bought a place in '97 that I've found the remnants of several of those things in dilapidated, scrap plywood, lean-to blinds. As much drinking as was probably done (we also owned the place across the road), it's a wonder we didn't hear the ambulance on several occasions.

Toilet paper/alcohol worked. It's a slow steady burn. Lasted couple of hours, very little odor.
Will pretty much just let you warm your hands.

I've been in a travel trailer (with no power, windows cracked) 20 mi. west of Kermit with a propane burner, pretty much in my crotch, in the middle of the night, wind storm raging outside, on a hunt before. Wound up getting my best mulie.

I'm willing to try it! Thanks.

If you are doing home made heating (or any fire based heat) be careful of carbon monoxide.
No smell, no warning, you skip off to sleep and never wake up.

That's what I like about the Buddy heaters, they will shut off when the oxygen level gets low.

For under 20 bucks a battery powered CO detector can be had at Target.
In the off season hang it in your garage.

I run a propane heater with at least one window open. Typically I have to turn it off because it gets too hot. Only thing I wonder about with propane heaters is if the glow off of them can be seen by deer prior to sunrise. Not sure if the blind looks like a jack o lantern or I'm just being paranoid.

I run a Buddy heater in my 4x6 with a window cracked and have never had a problem. In fact this year I got tired of buying the little green bottles so I bought a hose off of their website for a 20lb and and welded a frame to set it in. Should last me all season!

Rex, I was thinking the same thing. Got to freeze to sunrise. But I get the heart rate up walking to the stand.

Cr, that's a good idea, I have an extra hose. I can build a wood stand outside the blind for the tank, drill hose sized hole, run hose inside and be set......
