Look at a Beretta SV10 Perennia O/U 20 gauge with kick off:

Shot a friends dad's Beretta 28 Gauge Silver Pigeon over 4th of July, recoil was almost non existent, did better on skeet shooting with it than I did my own 12 gauge....now if I just had $3600 laying around to buy my own.

Exactly!! He hasn't ever shot a ported barrel ! They do reduce recoil by quite a bit actually... The only draw back is they are louder to the shooter .

Any gas operated semi that uses recoil energy to extract the spent shell and reload the chamber.

x2. You want a gas operated semi-auto like a Beretta or Remington. Benelli's are inertia driven meaning they will inherently have more recoil.

Check out this article....it has the Versamax and 1100/11-87 and Beretta's as the softest shooting which I agree with.

http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/gun-nuts/2011/12/top-5-softest-kicking-semi-auto-shotguns

I can't believe some of you are suggesting an O/U, they have noticeably more recoil than semi-auto's. confused2

Colonel Angus, I sincerely appreciate that more than generous offer but must decline. It's a heck of a gun and I would be anxious through the roof that something would go wrong in transit, I would scratch it, etc. Really can't say thanks enough for the offer though!

I think I am going to try to find a gas operated gun as many have suggested. So many choices! Appreciate all the feedback/links.

Grizz, I have wondered about that too but the surgeon said I should be able to do everything I used to be able to do. That hasn't exactly been the case unfortunately but he doesn't feel like any real structural damage could occur from it.

If you only need a 3" gun then the Remington V3 Sport is probably the lightest recoiling semi going, if it fits. I've had three shoulder operations and am very cognizant of recoil too.

Without the kick-off system I would say Beretta's are among the harsher recoiling gas guns and some people don't like the pogo stick sensation of it.. Browning Silver and Winchester SX3 use the exact same operating system and merit their reputation as soft shooting. Maxus system is almost the same and a little softer shooting. If the fit is not there a softer shooting shotgun will probably fill harsher than a heavier recoiling gun that fits.

The FABARM semi autos are very soft shooting. Remington 1100 is soft shooting. The VersaMax is very soft shooting and much of it is attributable to its weight.

If it were me I'd go for a heavier 20 gauge - 1100, SX3 or Silver if you are looking to buy new.

I use the EvoShield also. It works!

I have a problem with my right shoulder and when a gun kicks, it hurts. Therefore I shoot gas guns almost exclusively. I have a Beretta A400 Xplor 20 that is as light as a feather, handles superbly, and recoil is just nothing. Was for a time unreliable with 7/8 oz loads but is doing better lately. Just had 8 boxes of 7/8 oz. loads run through it without a hiccup. Also have a Beretta o/u 20 that is very nice piece as well but if I shoot 4 boxes through the o/u mu shoulder is marked up. I think I could shoot a case through the A400 and never feel it.
Recently got a Fabarms L4S in 12 Ga. that is looking good so far. I've run a good many 3 dram Federal Top Gun loads through it and it has cycled perfectly and no kick with that load either. Think I'm going to like this one.
I have had good luck (if kept clean) with 1100's in the past and SX2's have been good too. They are all fine guns. I just got off on the Italian guns because they are lighter and for a bird hunter that does a lot of walking, lighter is better.

1) Franchi's are great, I have one of the older gas operated models and love it...but they are extremely light. If recoil was my #1 concern I would look for a used 1100.

2) The Yildiz line, nothing fancy O\U's, has a 28. It's recoil will be somewhere between and 20 and 28 semi auto and the pricing is very good. All I've shot in the dove patch the last few years with absolutely no complaints!

3) Gas ports reduce muzzle jump, not recoil. The few that are drilled at an angle (AnglePort) really don't help to any noticeable degree. The reduced muzzle jump may seem like less recoil.

What length Barrel are you wanting? I have a 12 ga. 390 Custom Cera-Coated with a Kick-Off recoil system.

I can get any length barrel you want, it was built to be my back-up Sporting Clays Gun and hasn't been fired.

It was made from scratch from all new parts snd will outlast you and any future kids you may have...

Pretty sure you can't find a softer shooter or more reliable gun

than this one...

A400 with kickoff really is nice! I tried the blue one and liked it alot.

For other shotguns I really like the kickeez pads custom fit. They're a little more $ upfront, but they shoot softer.

If you can, I'd start reloading. I was able to reload some 12ga rounds that didn't recoil at all. If you look around hard enough, you can probably find the right load. I did find one once, but I forgot what it was. Alternatively, you could reload 28ga and go that route. (Not sure if you can get any distance with 28ga... but it's great for skeet)

Exactly, I don't know why guys are recommending Benelli. I love my Benelli and even with ports its the last gun I grab for a recoil sensitive shooter. confused2

This is probably the best advice you'll get....from an actual female shooter. My wife is very recoil sensitive and won't shoot 12g and didn't like 20g. She tried a Beretta A400 28g like the one below and had a big smile on her face:

You should reconsider...that's the best piece of advice and deal you've been offered on this post.

I gave my suggestions because I thought you were hell bent on the 12, that 28 is a sweet gun and a fair deal...especially with the money back guarantee. From a recoil perspective it is your best bet and they ship shotguns everyday, don't worry about it during transit.

I think the 390 is the best semi Beretta's ever made.

Does beretta make a 20 with a kickoff system? I have an 11-87 in 28 gauge, and the recoil is next to nothing.

Another excellent shotgun. The only reason I'd take a 390, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that the 303 is not compensating so you have to have two barrels if you want to shoot 2.75" and 3" shells. I've never handled or shot a 303 but from what I've heard they are incredible. Didn't Browning market the 303 as the B-80?

Couldn't say about Browning or not compensating. Owned a 303 20 ga. I found used at a good price and fell in love with it, Best semi auto I ever owned but only shot dove and skeet with it. Only sold it because the offer went up to twice what I paid for it . Pocketed the cash and replaced w/ a Franchi, really nice gun but not the 303, wish I had it back, handled so much better! P_102

The older 20 ga 1100's (pre 1969) were built on a 12 ga frame. They a a little heavier but have very little recoil. I have one and have shot it many time with one hand.

I looked it up and they are non-compensating, so to shoot 2.75 and 3" shells you need two barrels. I wouldn't mind having a 303. The Browning B-80 is the same shotgun with a few cosmetic differences.

Whatever gun you decide to get, try shooting some of these. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/i...ounds?a=1950866

Big difference in recoil. They cycle my 1100 just fine as long as I keep it clean.
