I know theres a ton of variables but, for the sake of discussion; Under 30 acres, decent deer population, decent buck to doe ratio, a few pigs, surrounded by other small places that are also hunted or potentially over hunted, TPWD says 2 bucks 2 does is legal with a new longer doe season in our county.

How many deer would you harvest if this were your own personal property?

1 doe each year or one mature buck only when available. No doe the years you shoot a buck.

A biologist told me that it takes roughly 100 acres of good, East Texas habitat to support a harvest rate of 1 buck per year. This number takes into account the number of lesser bucks and doe that same area will support.

I can't argue with that. But....

Neighbors on same less than 30ac, killed 4 last year. And got a longer doe season coming. I should probably go with HWYMAN's suggestion of 0.

We tried a gentlemans agreement of no bucks for 1 year with other neighbors, that didnt work out. My 8 pt 2 years ago got a lot of comments about being a big buck for that area and my cameras agree for a few years before and after. Now that doe season is more realistic I would have to be a much bigger buck that the 8 I have for me to take a shot.

Define decent population? Deer to 10 acres...15 acres....20 acres...???? If you have a 1 buck to every 3 doe ratio and deer to 10 acres you will not have many deer to pick from. Maybe not even a buck. If every landowner fills their tags you will not be seeing many deer. For me, I would only shoot a deer I deemed mature, buck or doe. If it were my place, I would probably not be killing a deer every year due to the hunting pressure around the place.

Hunted on a place in college that was 20 acres. We shot 5 deer off of it a couple years in a row and it seemed to have no effect on the deer. It was in an acreage subdivision of sorts, big ranch broke up into 20-30 acre tracts, none of the other neighbors hunted and most of them fed to watch the deer.

If all the neighbors hunt, I would either not hut it or not shoot anything till I saw a mature buck, or maybe a doe ever other year or so.

I maybe should've worded that differently, I just meant to make the scenario more average east Texas, just to throw it out there. No documented numbers.

Exactly what we have here, big place broken up. Only difference is the pressure, East of us, 2 hunters. North of us, feeder 30yds from fence. South, hunters. West of us just got bought up and they have a blind on a trailer behind the house. Not to mention the locals you can hear driving around all hours of the night. Nobodys feeding deer here unarmed, Any of y'all have an opening on a lease?
