Looking for a can to use on a 45 ACP and also a 6.8 SPC. Has anyone used one of the new Hybrids? Thoughts? I kinda like the idea of having a suppressor I could switch between pistols and rifles.

I've got one in jail now. I haven't run it on a pistol yet, but on my 6.8 and .223 it's pretty great. It's not winning any size or weight contests, but I'm willing to sacrifice a bit so that I can use it on all of my guns.

If you're running it on a rifle, decide whether you want to go direct thread or QD. If you're doing QD, it'll cost a bit more since you'll have to purchase an ASR brake or flash hider, then purchase the ASR adapter for something like $130.

This sounds cool but I'd get the direct thread and have Morgan make a bunch of different thread adapters. $130 a pop is kind of steep, I don't want to pay the $75 each for my YHM adapters.

Now, it's not $130 each. That's my poor writing coming through. It's $130 for the suppressor's QD adapter, then $60 or so for each brake/FH. You can buy thread adapters for cheap to make all your rifles into 5/8x24 like the direct thread adapter uses, and that'll save a lot of money.

I'm sure the Hybrid seems a bit like pay-to-play since you can purchase endcaps, boosters, direct thread adapters, QD parts, etc, but I will say that it's cheaper to get it set up to run on all of my guns than buying dedicated suppressors. I did buy a dedicated rimfire suppressor, but that's because those are in a class of their own. For all of the centerfire calibers, it's nice knowing that I can run it on anything I have and anything I will buy.

I'd be courious to see if shooting a 9mm through a can made for 45 ACP will sound the same as a 9mm through a dedicated 9mm can. Seems to me it would allow more noise to come out with the bullet...or does the fact that it's a bigger can with more internal airspace inside trap more noise than the smaller one?

30 cal cans seem to be quieter on 5.56 than dedicated 5.56 cans I guess the same would go for 9mm out of a 45 can.

The smaller bore size on the end of the can apparently makes the 9mm can quieter than shooting 9mm through a 45 can.

Hmm learn something new everyday I guess, but I know my 30cal can makes my 5.56 quieter than my 5.56 can.

There's two ways to make a suppressor quieter: more volume, or better delaying of gases escaping.

Putting a 30 cal suppressor on a 5.56 gun will probably make it quieter because of the increased volume for the gases to expand into before exiting. Now if you had a micro 30 cal can, it probably wouldn't do better than most 5.56 cans, but typically they're quite a bit larger. Then, having a smaller hole at the end of the can basically creates another choke point for the gases, delaying them. If you have a big old .46" hole at the end of the suppressor, even if you have a decent volume for the gases to expand into, it's probably still not going to have great suppression. But if you have interchangeable endcaps, you can get a .226" or so endcap for shooting 5.56 and it'll have much better suppression because then you have both the increased volume of the large can, along with the better constriction of gases.

I have one in jail as well. In 5 or 7 months maybe I'll be able to help you out . . .
