Anyone Using a bench mounted priming press Vs just the hand held? Been looking into a few different models. Been usin a Lee for years but want to upgrade. I like the adjustable seating depth capabilities. These are a few I have looked at. Any other options? Bald Eagle Precision RCBS Bench Mount. This one has the strips (Looks like a Pain) Primal Rights Press ($$$$)

I have also been on a search for something similar. I use the Lee Auto Prime 2, which is press mounted like a die, and primes on the top of the press. I like this priming method because I can control the exact priming seating depth. The problem with hand primers is you WILL get inconsistent primer seating depths and have some primers that are too deep or not deep enough. The Lee system I use gets it within .001" every time.
At SHOT show in Vegas, I can't remember who, but it was one of the big players was coming out with a new priming system that was adjustable and bench mounted. It was either RCBS or Lyman, I think. I was going to keep an eye out for it.
Also, according to ATK ammo techs (CCI, Federal, etc), you want your primer depth to be .004" to .008" below flush for proper primer depth. I try to get .004" to .005" deep on my ammo.

The new Lee bench prime is the shhnitz. I have had mine for a while and will.never prime on the press unless I have to. I did break the small primer cassette but Lee sent a new one.

Primer depth is my main concern. I have checked pocket depth on several pc of brass and have found vering Results. I have never had any issues seating the primers below the base. SOme I can see are set higher than others. This is an attempt to reduce my ES on a few of my loads. I'll keep an. Eye out for Lyman and RCBS. At the moment I'm leaning toward the Bald Eage Press.

I have used one of these from Holland shooting supply which is a modified RCBS. I did not buy it though. One of my customers bought one so I went over to shoot and check it out. Look under Reloading equipment... https://hollandguns.com/This is not evidence or scientific but I brought 50 rounds I loaded using a old Lee hand primer of which I have six two from the 1970's still going. I then primed 10 rounds on that machine and compared using the dial indicator to a group out of my rounds....the Lee hand primed were actually slightly more consistent. I lost interest at that point. Here is my .308 last check of speed from last week.

DStroud, that's fantastic! Next you're going to show us five rounds inside a 5" group at a thousand? Are these bench mounted systems as fast as an RCBS handheld?

I have been wanting to try the forster bench mounted tool as well as the lee one. Has anyone tried either of them? I didnt really care for the RCBS so I returned it mainly cause of the primer feeding system and the fact I hate primer pickup tools and done see a way to use the dillon primer loader thingy with them/

That looks cool. If not seating primers flush against the base of the primer pocket, what difference would it be if seating at a selected depth, let's say flush with the base of the case head instead of flush at the base of the primer pocket? Would it help with consistent ignition?

That looks pretty interesting, too bad they haven't connected the arm to the shuttle on the rear movement to auto feed the primer.

Yep basically the Hornady Iron press primer system does that you just can't adjust primer seating depth

Trying to set primers at a certain level with the aid of a stop introduces variable we have no control over. We can control the depth of the pocket and seat to the bottom. We can't control the small differences in the rim thickness and if you utilize a method of seating that does not seat to the bottom those primers will have a bit of cushion when the firing pin strikes. I like the RCBS bench mount auto-prime, you get positive feedback when the primer is seated. I don't mind filling the tubes. The only issue I've had is when using a generic shell holder not holding the case in alignment with the primer punch resulting in primers being flipped on their side or flipped completely over.

The RCBS Automatic Bench Priming Tool combined with a FA Vibra-Prime is very fast. It's also a safer product because if you were to pop a primer, it is isolated from the primer tube and would not be able to ignite the primer stack (I've never popped a primer but you still need to use precautions as if you would). I cut the plastic primer pick-up things off the primer tubes and then chamfered the plastic that remained inside the tube(s). I can fill the Vibra-Prime tube with 100 primers and then dump them in the RCBS primer tubes in 30 seconds easy. Maybe faster but I'm not in a race over it. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/457599/rcbs-automatic-bench-priming-tool

I agree. I think the issue is hand primers like the Lee only seat so far. No way of knowing if you are sitting In the bottom of the pocket. The adjustable seater allows for deeper seating and for primer cup thickness verences.

Not sure if its faster or not, but I use my RCBS rock chucker press. I guess the down side is that you have to "load" the primers 1 by 1, but once I get in the groove, I can get them done pretty quickly.

I could not go there after using the other priming systems availed to reloders now.... I doubt I could find my priming arm for my Rockchucker as its been off in a box for 30 years or more.

That makes sense. I just got started with reloading about a year back and just put everything together according to the instructions, which included that priming arm. I tried the hand primer, but wasn't a fan. I'm sure there are MUCH better ways to go about it than what I'm doing, I just haven't gotten there yet. Still on this learning curve.

Is anyone using these various methods of seating primers having any problems with ignition? Or have you ever had problems with ignition because of a primer seating issue?
And does anyone really think that 99.9% of the shooters here could tell a difference in accuracy because of primer seating depth?
