Anyone know of places to dove hunt around Lufkin? Going to be down there for the opener and have no idea where to go if anywhere. Sure there's plenty of deer and hog hunting in the pine trees, but I've never seen much in the way of dove hunting down there.

Very hit and miss, no pun intended, finding consistent dove in the piney woods. With very few traditional agricultural fields tons of scouting is required.

Its a simple formula but hard to find. You need cleared land or timber within the year. Goat weed has to come up and be accessible. New construction sites, road building areas and fresh clear cuts etc... Sounds crazy but these areas work better than pastures with grass that have goat weed. The doves want the hard pan red clay so the seeds are easy to find. A grassy pasture with no dirt is not near as productive. Look for some forest service land with has been clear cut. Lots down in the area.
