I have 47 acres i hunt and own and when i hunt my stand i park my atv about 200yds away from my stand and walk the rest of the way. I dont know if or how many deer i spook going in and out but usually get a deer every year. I guess im asking how far do yall park from ur stands when ur hunting?

Right behind it to 1/4 mile. Depends on the set-up and how much room I have to cut a garage out of the brush. Plus, what's between me and the stand. I never hunt one of my stands unless the wind is in my face, so I'm ALWAYS parked downwind of the stand, feeders. We have 24 stands, though.

Depends on where I'm hunting..on that acreage though, I'm not cranking or driving an ATV around.

I hunt 85 acres and usually walk everywhere as to not spook anything. Sometimes I use a jon boat and trolling motor to cross the property. Id recommend you doin the same if you can get to your stand without walking the entire property. Also depends what part of the state you hunt

For me it all depends. Some stand we park 50- 75 yards from it because the Polaris is at the bottoms of a hill and out of sight. Some stands we park 150 yards away. But where ever we park we make sure it's not in a direction the deer typically come from and is completely out of sight if your sitting in the stand.

I hunt 77 acres and park at the gate and walk into the middle. So about 450 yards. I will say that this is the farthest that I have ever walked to a stand. The guy on the next property over parks at his gate and walks 100 or a little less to his stand.

Depends on where hunting. In far W TX some of our sets we can pull right up to the blind. In E TX I park just inside the gate and walk to any of my stands on the 200 acres.

I park within 20 yards of my blind when rifle hunting. The deer just are spooked at our place. Had to throw rocks at the deer inside my pen just to get my buck I shot last year.

I hate driving to stand and it's only a 1/4 mile away. My dad on the other hand, just when I am getting ready to go, will say "give me a ride to the stand". His stand is closer than mine and he can walk there perfectly fine. So, I drive him to his stand and then go back and start walking.

My property is rectangular in shape and my stand is on the end with a power line rightaway going across the bottom. My legs wont let me walk to far so i need to be resonably close but we have very thick cover the whole way to the stand.

About 10 feet from my stand. I hollowed out a hole in the brush and I pull my truck right behind my stand.

I do the same.

1/4 to 1/2 a mile usually. However, I can't count the number of times I get back to the truck/ATV and there's a deer within 100-300 yards of it, sometimes even closer. We ranch, and have Invenergy windmills, so the deer are pretty used to vehicle traffic.

I have a tailgate feeder on the ranch ride and it's not unusual to walk back to the truck and find a half dozen deer standing around it staring at the feeder. They'll trot off a ways when I walk up, but I always make sure to throw out a little corn as I leave to keep them happy. It's good to have a few pet deer that know they are bullet proof.

If we are able we walk. I have parked a vehicle within 100-200 yards in bad weather etc. and have a couple family members we have taken hunting that don't walk so good anymore that we drop off at the stand in a truck and see little difference in what we see.

Our ranch roads are in good shape, a lot of times I will drive our ford escape part way if the weather is bad, it is probably quieter than a gas golf cart, you do have to go back to camp and get a pickup or tractor if you get something though.

Right to the base of it. I used to walk about a half mile in until I realized the deer didn't give a crap about my four wheeler. Started driving right up to it and haven't noticed a difference in anything. I'm lazy.

I always thought that driving a vehicle to go hunt was like throwing a rock in a pond. The vehicle is as much of a disruption to the early morning calm just like the rock makes waves in a pond. I think this is especially true on small acreage or tight hunting areas. I will hitch a ride to a stand or at least give myself a 10 minute walk in.

Are you looking for solid research on the subject, or just trying to find out how many guys ride their ATV's to the steps of their stand so you'll feel better about doing it yourself?

I try to keep a low profile and walk more, and have noticed a significant increase in deer sightings when doing this. The approach also goes along with a lengthy study on hunter pressure on deer behavior that found clear evidence that older bucks will stay away from an area for several days after a hunter has been in a stand in the area. I killed my biggest East Texas buck one Opening Day morning after making it a point to make the half-mile walk to my stand instead of riding the ATV.

Just as the case with those who shun the need for shooting practice, you will find plenty of those who claim that walking more and riding less makes no difference.

I use an electric trail buggy all year round on the property and the deer are very used to it. Drive it to the stand and park it in the brush as close as possible. Not because I am lazy but when I walk in, the deer run off like crazy because it is something different. Best way we have found is to have someone drop the hunter off in the buggy and come back later to pick them up. Don't let the deer see you walking around or getting in and out of the stand.

May not work for some but works well on our place.

I walk a mile to my main stand. Others I use are varying distances. I always walk when I am alone or even with my daughters. If others are hunting I don't insist on them walking but am starting to re-think that. My strong preference is that the only vehicle sounds on my place would be those upon arrival and departure.

It takes about 10-12 minutes to walk the mile to my stand. There's really no excuse for not walking except for health reasons.

I suspect most of us would agree that comparing deer behavior in the off season, with how they react to human pressure once the arrows and lead starts flying, is like comparing apples with oranges. It doesn't take them long to learn we's after them.
