I shot my first bobcat back in February. A good friend and I were hunting outside Corsicana with my buddy Justin. Justin is an excellent guide and really knows his stuff when it comes to calling predators. I'd been hunting with him for a few years and had shot several really nice yotes but hadn't gotten a cat until that night. I know he used to post here and may still but I can't remember his username. Maybe he'll see this and chime in. If not, I'm sure I can get it for anyone wants it.

My friend had made a bad shot and missed a coyote at dusk. We broke for dinner and then drove out to a new property. I had given my friend first opportunity cause I'm a nice guy that way, but now it was my turn on the rack. We had been calling for about 20 minutes and were about to move to a different spot, but I got a weird feeling in my gut and asked Justin to call a couple more minutes. Not 30 seconds later a set of bright red eyes popped over a hill about 200 yards out. Justin brought him in on a string. He dropped down into a little creekbed and turned up about 50 yards in front of us. I set the reticle on what I could tell was a great cat, he paused for a second, and I let the 243 do it's thing. As soon as I walked up on him, I knew I had another taxidermy bill coming. He came in at 29 pounds.

I have seen some pretty badly done cats, so I asked Justin for some recommendations. One of his recommendations was Harwell Taxidermy in Rowlett. I spoke to Mr Harwell and dropped the cat off with him. He did a great job in my opinion at a competitive price and had it done at least a month ahead of his estimate. I would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone looking for a good taxi. I'll let the pics tell the rest of the story.

I've seen more bad cat mounts than good ones. That one's pretty dang nice.

Nice kitty Russell! Did you throw you gun across the creek before or after you shot it?
