I am interested in a guided hunt for Purple Gallinule. I am a waterfowler and collector from Michigan and only interested in taking one or two birds back for taxidermy. From what I have read, they migrate south really early so the only opportunity to take them would be in the early teal season in September. I am willing to pay someone well if they can get me in to them. I would really appreciate any help... Thanks guys! Greg aka goosehunter 51

I recognize the woman in the photo, that pic is most likely from Florida.

I have never seen one in Texas. It would be a rare bird here. The only times I have heard of people seeing them in Texas it has been birders and in nature preserve type places where there is no hunting allowed. I have seen several in Florida. Around the Everglades would be your best bet. I would not consider them much of a game bird, but then the Rails I hunt every year are like shooting grasshoppers with a shotgun.

Not true. Check the Texas Waterfowl Digest. There is a season for them in Texas and I know of several hunters who have taken them here. Dont know of any outfitter guiding for them however.

He was talking about them being protected in Florida. Though I don't hear much about Purple Gallinules in Texas, Common Gallinules or Moorhens seem to be fairly common here. There was one on our deer lease pond in Young County last summer.

Haven't seen purple gallinues but plenty of common gallinues here in Texas. Unfortunately, the habitat where we've normally seen them is suffering from a bad drought.....

The birds in that picture are likely non native purple swamp hens in Florida or Australia. They look too big to be purple gallinules. Purples are about the size of a white wing dove. Good luck finding a place in TX- I've been looking for years. Ive shot a couple in the marsh around Sabine lake in LA and in mazatlan Mexico.

I had a place down in the Valley that we would occasionally see those at, never did shoot one though.

I don't pay very close attention ever but I'm pretty sure we see quite a few of these every year in the marsh down here?
