I have a Barnett Brotherhood crossbow that shoots 350 FPS. I've been using 125 grain rage broadheads with mixed success. What are the pros/cons of shooting expandables vs fixed blade? Which are your favorite fixed blades? Thanks for your help.

Overall I am satisfied with my new purchase. It was relatively easy to set up and the price was good. Not sure why people would spend over $1000 for a crossbow. I have shot it about 40 times already and no issues. My shots have been between 7 and 50 yards. I will still need more practice before hunting with it. It does not come with a rope cocking device so be sure to order one if you don't have one. My only criticism is the quality of the scope. I would have preferred some fiber optics for aiming points. Also the eye relief seems pretty long and I can't adjust it out any farther. After more usage I will determine if I need to upgrade my scope. Regardless, I am looking forward to hunting with it and know it will be awesome.

I have had good luck with sonics. The expandables I had, don't remember the brand I am pretty sure where opening on each shot.

I'm using G5 Stryker broadheads in my Barnett now, and shot a Sika last weekend with one.

The broadhead cam out in pretty rough shape...but did a ton of damage even though I missed the vitals with the initial shot.

Shot one deer and one hog with the Rage crossbow head and probably will be my last usage for that one.

Have used G5 Montec and Slicktrick 125gr magnum and no issues with either. both shoot to the same place as my field tips and will not fail to open or open early.

I had a problem with Rage crossbow broadheads opening in flight and now I have them sitting on a shelf with the rest of the ones that don't work for me. I now use G5 Montec crossbow broadheads and get terrific flight out of them. I shoot them out of a MXB-360 crossbow with the HHA optimizer speed dial. I have always liked HHA products and used to use their single adjustable pin sight with my compound.

I took 2 deer and a javelina with the Rage broad heads last year. They get pretty banged up though. I can say they do the job and do it well though. Never had any other issues with them. I'm launching them with a Parker Thunderhawk.

I am also in the search of some broadheads. It seems there a ton of options and no real consensus on which is the preferred. I do see the G5 name in this thread quite a bit. To me its seems hard to make a good decision, last I want to do is injure an animal.

I use an Excalibur Crossbow and use their Bolt Cutter 125 grain broadheads with it. They fly just as true as the field points and very happy with the results. Killed a 140# dressed weight buck with one on a complete pass thru lung shot. Reused the same bolt and broadhead to kill two more turkeys after that.

I took six shots with the NAP Spitfire Maxx the last three years and took home 7 animals. They have not failed me once. A 173 and 186 pound hog in one shot, 323 pound hog, 7 point, 9 point and 2 does. My closest kill was 5 yards on a doe and 43 yards was my longest shot on the 7 point.
