"This isn’t a prop, but a real gun that used to be commonly used in commercial waterfowl hunting. They were called “punt guns,” because they were used in a kind of boat called a “punt.” The guns fired almost a pound of shot, and could kill fifty birds in one shot. Unsurprisingly, they were outlawed when they devastased wild bird populations."

They still do it albeit for fun and sport in UK. Like they say, a normal hunter kills way more than they do with only a few left in operation. Look at the shell size!

As was sink boxes. Migratory bird treaty 1918. They get around the sink boxes now using cold water survival suits and wading out in the flats.

The Havre Grace decoy museum is a must see if any one ever hunts or visits the Chesapeake. Lots of history in that museum.

The OP's picture is actually are two Feds.

Canvas backs use to bring a lot of money. Outlawgunning was a huge black market for decades after the treaty

That was a good article. Looks like that would be a fun experience. At over $30 per shell I am sure I wouldn't shoot that gun very often either.
