Uncle gave me older marlin 30 30. Has an old weaver scope. What's a good option?
Hunt east texas, no shots over 150 yards.........

What power is the weaver? I have an old weaver fixed 6 power scope on a 30-06 that my dad gave me. I have killed several deer with that gun and feel comfortable shooting to 150 with it.

I'd do something in the 2-7x won't make a recommendation other than that. Everyone has what they like or don't.

If the old Weaver is clear and holds zero I would leave it. I think the lever guns look better with the older scopes. My Marlin has an old Burris with a worn, purple looking finish and I think it looks right at home.

Like they said if the old scope works use it. Other than that 1-6 or 2-7 are good power ranges for those guns

Mine has a weaver k4 made in El paso. If I was to change, I'd buy a weaver k2.5 for it.

Grizz. I think your right.
I got it out and looked at it.
It's a weaver 4.5 A USA
I need to go shoot it, but scope and mounts look solid. It's a 1971 Marlin. Same year as my birth.

dont 'fix it' if it aint broke! Exactly. I have a couple older rifles wearing El Paso Weavers that hold zero and shoot well. I wish they'd make something like the old steel tube models again, they are great scopes.

Agree leave it be, I have a Marlin 336 30-30 that has a medallion in the stock that has the words Marlin 1870-1970 on the medallion. it has a Bushnell 4 X Banner scope that was put on the rifle when new. My first "deer" rifle the wife bought for me in 1970 for $99. The last time I shot it I killed a hog with it and that was a few years ago. Hard to believe I have had it 46 years.

I had a Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35 on mine for a number of years and two years ago replaced it with a VX-3 1.75-6x32. I like a little more power than 4x. In retrospect the Burris will do 95% of what the Leupold will do at less than half the cost.

I have a lever gun for shooting with iron sites. If I put a scope on it I would make it a basic no-frills scope like several mentioned above. And make the scope from the same era as the rifle.

Mine wears a vintage Simmons Whitetail 2.5x10 with the see-through rings. The bigger the scope is physically, the more aesthetics are getting taken away. Enjoy using irons, or have a small scope on there.

I hunted with a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem for many years. The scope I had, and which was all the scope I ever needed, was one of those old Weaver 4 powers.

Mine has a weaver k4 made in El paso. If I was to change, I'd buy a weaver k2.5 for it. I have one of these as well, the 60b. Took it off an older remington fieldmaster and going to put it on an older r700 22-250, something about these old scopes just go well with a classic rifle. If you want something new then I would suggest Leupold fixed, or even a zeiss conquest x4 if you can find one. Don't know your preference, but at 30-30 range I probably wouldn't go above x6 and would prefer the lighter scope. Can't go wrong with a lower power variable like the HOG or the vx-3i 1.5-5x20.

On my winchester 94 30 x 30 I have a one power iron sights on it. My thoughts are a lever guns are best open sights. But a fixed power 4 power would be my choice for a scope.

If you feel like you need to scope a .30-30, my own preference would be a 1-4x or 1.5-5x. Anything that does not have a one-inch objective looks weird and out of place to me.
