I go whenever I can, regardless of the moon. But I have heard that it is best when the moon is overhead and when it is under foot. All the hunting apps that I have basically follow that concept- if you look at what is the best time to hunt it always coincides with the moon in one of those two positions.

Your major feeding times are when the moon is directly over head, or directly under foot. Your minor feeding times coincide with when the moon is rising or setting.

Okay, that makes it easy to figure out 3 out of four of the times....unless it's cloudy.

I'm seeing this advertised on hunting shows now, although they say it has been available since the '90s. How about a review - ease of use, what it tells you, etc?

Clouds have nothing to do with the gravitational effects the moon has on wildlife and their feeding times, you do understand that?

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

After using it now that the season has started I'm a believer. Last week starting for Thursday to Tuesday was a red hunt time. The guided says it the best time to see a mature buck in the day. I hunted 4 days and seen 5 good bucks. Maybe just dumb luck but come first week of November it will be a red hunt time so I will be hunting hard.

Moon rise and set is in the paper each day and you can pull it up on-line.

Tcb it says to hunt close to bedding areas. November 3 to the 8th is a red moon. Says that's the best days to see a big buck in daylight.

I've never personally payed attention to the moon phases hunting or fishing. I know people that swear to it and have good results. But it tends to become more psychological than anything. I've heard the rut is determined by the moon phases, but I can't really tell.

I always look at the moon phase just out of curiosity. When it comes to hunting I think it is more important when I rise and set.

I used it all the time for many years. I didnt let it dictate when I hunted but how I hunted. Read into the A,B and C parts of the guide. I found the absolute best times to hunt were 3-5 days after a full moon. With that said, lots of other factors will override the moon effect. Pressure is the #1 thing that will absolutely negate it. Weather will impact it as well. Just start comparing your really good days hunting to what the guide indicates and your bad days as well. After a few years you will see a pattern develop. I found it to be very helpful in planning hunts way in advance. I always booked any hunts I wanted to take according to the guide. I was never disappointed. As others have said, I quit taking the guide and just started paying attention to moon transit times. You can look at them years in advance.

Thanks for the headsup. Love Huntstand. Brother in law is a pilot and HAS to have a sense of direction, will not play it by ear as ive always done. I know our land like my kids, but a different perspective staring at a map.
