Growing up, all we hunted with was old NE single shot and then 870s.....fast fwd 25 yrs and now wanting to get my boys into hunting and need a couple guns. I never remember the 870 letting me down on squirrels and rabbits but didn't do much bird hunting....an drawbacks?

Looking to buy maybe up to (3) and right now, you can get the 870s for less than $300

Thanks for any feedback,

Adam

The quality of the newer 870 Express isn't nearly what it used to be. All of that said, for $300, they're not bad, just know what you're getting.

How old are your kids?

Momma is gonna shoot too, but I just left an Academy, the Benelli Nova for an star $100 seemed like a good gun for the money. The 870 I handled just didn't seem like dads.....but it's not, different times, different idea of quality

If I was going to by a pump gun, it would be a Benelli Nova.

Absolutely, or maybe a CZ. They have a pump trap gun that really handles nice, for $500

Be on the look out for older Wingmasters or a Mossberg youth 500 bantam 20 gauge for the youngen.

The Ithaca Model 37 is being manufactured in Ohio is a very well made shotgun. While a bit pricey in comparison to the 870 Express, the Ithaca is a bottom ejection shotgun that makes it nice for either left handed or right handed shooters.
