I'm a the bigger the better guy but 5x10 is usually plenty. When I have used 5x10 I keep the dog houses outside the run. But my yard is fenced around the kennels so they get out to run every day.

Same here with the fenced yard. Dogs run from back to the front in their kennels.. I made mine 4x16.

I built mine 40 years ago. I'd do the same size if I had to build another one. The only two changes I would make is a wider drain and barrels with flat tops for boxes.
