For some reason I dread sighting in my rifle for hunting season.
Bought a new 6.8 and nikon P223 scope, bought ammo, just can't time find time to make it a priority.
I don't hate sighting in rifles, just dread it for some reason...

I enjoy it. Especially when I can do it in two rounds. Mail it to me.

Maybe it's because it takes me two boxes to get it sighted in...

Quick method I use: (1) use as big of a target as you can get (2) Shoot at the bullseye (3) Observe the POI then while holding on the bullseye adjust your scope to match the POI. That should save some ammo and get you very close, you can fine tune from there with one or two more shots.

I don't hate sighting in my rifles. It's sighting in my slug gun that bothers me. It might have something to do with the recoil being roughly equivalent to a 338 Win Mag. Checking my zero with my favorite slug is fine, but if they're unavailable, finding a replacement is a grind.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I sight mine in at 25 yds 1 1/2 low des center and then go to 100 yds and get it sighted in for my 100 yd zero. Gets me close at 100 then only have an adjustment or two to get to dead center.

the only thing more satisfying than sighting in is checking zero and foul shots for the upcoming season and knowing that first cold bore shot will absolutely irrefutably go right where i point it.

It makes a difference on what you have available for sighting in. I use a led sled. Holding the rifle still and in the exact same position is crucial to making sighting in easy and quick.
When sighting in a new set up I remove the bolt and look down the barrel and position an object in the middle of the barrel sight. I'm doing this while I have my rifle tightly cradled in the led sled. Then I look through the scope and set the cross hairs to the same object. Now I'm ready to shoot. I usually send only two down if they group. Now, while the rifles has not moved at all in the led sled, I chase the 2 shot grouping with my cross hairs. I wait a good 10 minutes or more before shooting another group.
If the wind isn't blowing, I can accomplished this in less than 20 minutes or so. if I shoot additional groups, I let the barrel cool for another 10 minutes between shots. Shooting a hot barrel will just frustrate your efforts.

The only part I hate about sighting in is the other people at the range. I try to go on a weekday and be waiting at the door when they open. That or I'll go to a friends land and zero it there.

If I cannot get it done in two rounds or less then there is something wrong with the optics or the gun.

You raise a good point. I always check my scope mounts prior to sighting in.

First sighting in isn't bad except for waiting between shots for the barrel to cool down. If I am checking the zero on a rifle, then I will take 4 or 5 rifles and check them all so there's something to do while waiting for the barrel to cool down. Shoot each one once and then shoot them all a second time.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I'm one of those who enjoys shooting and making trips to the range throughout the off season. I'll take a different rifle every time I go and take great pleasure in shooting at least a box of shells.
Like anything that requires a sizable investment, the joy comes in making frequent use of it. Otherwise, you might as well keep it on a wall to look at.

I must like it...been to the range twice today and once yesterday all while shooting in the rain. Working on two wildcats so not much load data and checking some calibers with the new Reloder 16 powder that just hit the shelves.
SPG does as I do get a big target and it shouldn't take but 2-3 shots and your on IF the Gun/Load will halfway shoot.

Nailed it. I hate trying to sight my rifles in when the range is crowded. I have figured out with quality optics and mounts that most of my rifles are rarely off. The other thing is I shoot my rifles all year, so I know if their still holding zero before deer season starts.

I dont mind zeroing rifles. Bolt rifles and ARs are the easiest since boresighting is a breeze and hitting paper at 100 on first shot is nothing. Alot depends on the quality of your equipment though. If you have a crappy gun, base, rings, scope, ammo it can lead to alot of frustration while you figure out which variable is the problem.

Sighting in is easy, once you understand how to do it.
You have to bore sight your rifle first. For an AR or bolt gun, you pull the bolt and look through the bore and line your cross hairs up to the center of an object at 50-100 yards away. This will get you within about 4"-6", or closer. Once you make your first round shot, measure the distance up/down and/or right/left, and make the "calculated" adjustment (not estimated!) with a ruler, squares on the target, or use your reticle. Send your second round, and it should be near center and fine tune it from there. I've zero'd several rifles with only one shot, but most take 2-3 rounds.

I shoot year round, so sighting in only happens when I change a scope or a load or get a new rifle. I recheck my zero about once a month, usually with a single round. Out of 6 or 7 rifles that I shoot regularly, there might be one per year that drifts off a bit without any explanation. Most years none drift.
BTW - I love sighting in. It's load development that I find tedious.
Edit: I should say I recheck my zero at 100 yards about once a month. Those rifles get shot almost every weekend, but I usually start at 400 yards and work back. If I didn't get a good return to zero it will show up pretty darn quick.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I have figured out with quality optics and mounts that most of my rifles are rarely off. The other thing is I shoot my rifles all year, so I know if their still holding zero before deer season starts. So you're not a part of that "let me see if it still works" gang. Although they would never admit it, I'm sure there are many who fire only one or two shots a year "just to check their zero" because their big bore loads kick the crap out of them. Of course the shells for such rounds aren't cheap either. If your rifle isn't joy to shoot, find one that is, or try reduced recoil ammo and don't tell anyone. They'll never know the difference. But they will for sure when you flinch and miss because you never conditioned yourself to recoil through lengthy practice.
