I'm impressed and interested if you are making them.

So I went straight to the programmers here at work to see about making one of these because its a brilliant idea. After going down there to them and ordering parts to make one, I decided to do a quick google search... hard to beat the price on this one:

http://www.hayneedle.com/product/la-cros...QzigaAvZ28P8HAQ

But I guess the down fall to this one is the transmitter has to be hooked to the router and it has to be close enough to the freezer to receive the signal from the thermometer...

When you do it i suggest importing the sensor library, i didn't know it existed in python so had to read the sensors the hard way; with the library it's as easy as sensor.id,sensor.temp(c/f)

I'd rather tell people how to do it themselves - nothing here is proprietary or even that smart. It's just lego's for adults. I will say this thing saved my [censored]; a few months after I posted this I got a TXT alert that I was at 10f (i get alerts at -5f, 0f, 5f and every 5 degrees thereafter). Turns out the plug got knocked out (i think by the Verizon idiot) and had I not had this I'd have lost ALLOT of meat. again.

I usually ignore the -5f and 0f ones, and on occasion it will get to 5f.... 10f I knew was an issue.

I haven't looked around in a while but the RasPI has had some evolution. The RasPi is overkill for this project, and fairly expensive. They released the RasPi Zero w/ Headers, BT and WiFi for cheap - if I was going to re-do this, I would use this board.

I may get one and just play with it.

I got a hair up my arse about this PiZero platform and had a custom PCB fabricated. I have a total of 6 breakout boards coming from the prototype center. They are designed to fit the Zero (from a form factor perspective) but can work on any genRaspi

If you are interested in one let me know, I'm not trying to make money on these so the cost will be pretty much the cost of parts. you will have to solder the components onto the PCB or I can do it for you. 2 TRRS jacks are surface mount, the others are pins/drill holes. Total soldering is 2 TRRS jacks, 3 LED's and 4 resistors + the 40pin Headerblock. If more than a couple people want one then I will have to have more printed.

As has been said, money to be made with this...

Buddy lost two chest freezers full of elk. I have had the pleasure several times of cleaning Frig/freezer at the lease after a storm popped the breaker. No fun in mid-summer...

Be great if the ramrod got a text when the fridge/freezer went above a certain temp. Lives on the place.

Google "wireless refrigerator" and there is a bunch of stuff out there. Some will even take photos inside of your fridge and text the pictures to you so you can see what you need to buy at the store along with temperature control. Great idea and a cool little hobby you have.
