General Shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. For Migratory Birds, the evening shooting hours end at sunset. I'm usually finished before then, but didn't know Migratory Bird times were slightly different. nidea
Thought maybe a Game Warden mis-spoke on Lone Star law...but as usual the GW was correct. Another good reason to read the Regulations every year before season.

Yeah I think many people miss the shooting hours section of the rules, as I almost always hear shots before LST in the morning and after LST in the evening.

Speaking of lone star law. Watched the first time last night. There are some grade A morons out there! I suspect there are probably a number of them posting or lurking these forums too.

Cheers to those who follow the laws.

I'll tell ya what, they listen too. Have seen our GW sitting down the road several times listening for a shot after legal hours. Not my guys but some others that have been known to give him a little trouble from time to time.

Yeah they will get out in the brush and wait too. last season I had my decoys out pretty early and was sitting still in my blind. There was another group setting a good distance away. While they were setting up I noticed a flash of light in the woods not far from me. Didn't think much of it. I hunted a few hours and then saw a game warden emerge from the woods to check that other group. I could hear their convos about not having their birds separated out.

Afterwards he approached and checked me. We both had a good laugh when he told me he about crapped his pants when I fired my first shots because he had no idea I was less than 50 yards from where he was sitting and watching that group. I thanked him for doing his job and checking us out. I never expected to see him so far away from the beaten path.

We don't even load up until legal light, it seems to have become a tradition. I am more worried about another round of coffee than I am loading up a gun. I also like being the last one in the blind to limit. That way I get to take my time and pick out birds without some a.. clown brother of mine shooting a bird out of my line of fire. The other plus is if it has a band and I am the only one shooting, it lowers the amount of discussion about to whom the band belongs. Notice I did not say it negates but lowers the amount of chatter about it. My brother and I can argue any point, right or wrong.

Here is definition on Texas Wildlife site:

Hunting Hours

One-half hour before sunrise to sunset except during the Light Goose Conservation Order. During the Special White-winged Dove Season: noon to sunset. See Sunrise/Sunset Computations.

Note, the ending time is sunset, not 30 minutes after sunset. I remember that it was 30 mins after sunset before. Is this a new rule this year?

30 min after sunset is law for all game animals and NON migratory birds. Migratory bird LST ends at sunset.

Good to know. I know the 30-min rule for deer hunt, but not pay attention on bird's evening hunt. I usually only hunt morning.
