I am thinking about loading some 12 ga. 3" turkey shell, is there a huge difference between hand loads and store bought? I know almost nothing about loading but my cousin has a loader that is collecting dust and needs to be used. Can someone please give advice on the best components and powders to use for this? It will help keep my mind busy this winter while I impatiently wait for spring turkey season. I do realize that choke selection will be a huge part of the process. Any knowledge that you would share would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Really not needed for 12ga. Plenty of factory stuff out there that patterns well with the right choke. However, if you want to move down to a lighter gun with less kick then you get into hand loading. I hunt with a youth model (21" barrel) 20ga. It's right at 6 pounds rigged the way I hunt with it. It's a dream to carry turkey hunting. I handload TSS (Tungsten Super Shot), and it will out perform any factory 12ga load.

I would love take my 20 ga. instead of my 12. It is a lot lighter and has way less recoil.
