Thinking of turning my 223 into a grendel..
Would that be the best choice of calibers to switch my ar15 ?
Who makes the high end barrels?

I have 6.8SPC and love it I think the 6.5 Grendel performs about the same so id say go either way.

My ar is setup for 77 gr noslers and shoots em great.. I want something I can take into the woods and if a deer steps out from 350 on in it will have no problems taking it... right right now is setup with a nightforce f1 3-15x50 so plenty of glass for long range

I have hit steel at 500 easily with my 16 inch 6.8 but not sure what kind of damage it will do on an animal at 350 yds. If I see a hog at that distance ill let ya know if it is a good option.

350 is a range where the 6.5 Grendel starts to make more sense than a 6.8, but the 6.8 has more ammo off the shelf ammo choices and is good out to 275 maybe 300 which is really dang pretty far, further than I've had to shoot a deer or hog anyway.

Ive shot pigs at 200 yds with my 6.8 and dropped them in their tracks. Been trying to get a shot past that but haven't had a chance yet.

I shoot the Hornady american gunner 110 grain HPBT. Its been very consistent for me. If I wanted to go past 500 yds id have to step up to the 120 SST. Ive seen someone hit steel at 700 yds with the 120SSTs

Lilja and Bartlein are 2 high end Grendel barrels, there are several others though. Precision Firearms uses a few different makers but their Citeron (sp) is reported as being good for the price. Faxon is now making some Grendel barrels.
Alexander Arms gets a lot of the barrels from Gun Barrel City, TX if that gives a clue to their barrel manufacture.
Several other good barrel makers are making Grendel barrels these days. Last year Adam Lilja took a whitetail in I think North Dakota at over 500 yards with his Grendel that has since been sold using one of their barrels. A man that teaches long range shooting and one of the Arthurs of the 6.5 reloading handbooks routinely shoots to 1k and beyond with a 17.6 inch Lilja barreled AR, shooting at 6K feet elevation doesn't hurt his trajectory though.

I've been wanting to do a Grendel build myself. I would tentatively like to get a barrel and bolt combo from Odin Works. Apparently there labeled barrels are from McGowen.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

The plus of the 6.8 is how light it can be and the fact you don't need a long barrel. 16 arp barrel in the scout profile

You're talking distance, look at BC, MV, and bullet weight. That should help make up your mind.
