Plan on building one up. What length would you go with running a sendero to rem mag contour

We built a 16.5 inch 6.5 creedmoor for TexFlip on here and I know he has been killing axis deer just under that yardage Think he said 450 is the farthest so far. I personally would go with the shorter barrel.

The 22 will yield about 50-75fps slower than the 24 so likely it'll run normal 260book velocities.

Dee...so a 24" 260 AI will run about +/- 100fps faster than 24" or a 22" std 260?
Any rough idea what I could expect from a 6.5x284 or 6.5x'06 rechamber in a std 260 T3's 22" barrel ? Or would those rechamber efforts in the '06 be better served in a T3 Swede's 22" barrel? Ron

As soon as I have the pennies I'm going to have HF do something similar for me. If I were the OP, I'd go with the shorter barrel too.. .

Ron 08 based rounds typically only farmer 75fps sometimes 100 barrel depending. Some guys get faster by running Palma brass but pressure is a bit higher than samii loads. Not sure on those but I'd imagine there would be a lot of unburned powder not getting used.

Might as well shorten it to make it more manueverable. It'll make plenty of velocity for a 600- yard hit.

What kinda velo does that creed get from a 16" barrel? I know 140's. A .260 (not A.I.) commonly makes 2800 fps out of a 24" barrel. Same holds true for my 25" 6.5 Creedmoor. Every inch cut off, lose 20-25 fps MV, rule of thumb. 22" ~2760 to 2750 MV 20" ~2720 to 2700 MV 18" ~2680 to 2650 MV Shortest bolt action I have is the 7mm-08 with a 20" barrel, sure is handy!

Im getting 2675 out of mine 260 (not A.I.) with a 23" barrel running 140's, buts thats only because I hit pressure signs due to the suppressor and the ES and SD shot up at velocities higher then the load I decided on.

Those are pretty good numbers.

Those are pretty good numbers. Those would not be brand new barrel, and virgin brass numbers. It's not uncommon for 6.5 mm to speed up after getting 200-250 rounds on them. Couple that with brass that has the shoulders bumped .002" from the fired length. Those numbers I wrote are post barrel seasoning, and brass fit to the chamber. I don't like brand new barrels and virgin brass for this reason. It has to be done, of course, and thankfully the only way to get out of that is to shoot the rifle.

260 AI is going to be faster than 6.5 Creedmoor by a bit. My Creed was initially built with a 25" barrel, and when I had it threaded for a suppressor I had it cut back to 22". I arrived at that number because my smith, Jon Beanland, told me he felt that was about the perfect barrel length for the 6.5's. I love the 22" barrel on mine, I would not hesitate to recommend that length. I have hit out to 1300 yards with it using a 140 AMAX, shooting through an Omega. I do feel like that 600-700 is as far as that combo needs to be used on game though, just my opinion. I killed a doe with mine at 410 last year.

I had my 260AI Shilen barrel cut down to 20 inches, and threaded for my can. I haven't put it on an action yet, but figured I'd get close to a 24 inch 260's velocity with it.

The 260 AI round will yield about 75 fps over a standard 260 Rem. If you want more speed than a standard 260, I'd go 6.5x284 before I went 260 AI. But, if you just want to play with a semi wild cat, then the 260 AI is not bad. I'm just not a big fan of all the case prep needed for a small gain.
Each inch will equal about 20-25 fps. So 2" will yield about 50 fps at 22", depending on the actual barrel length. Barrel length and caliber is a personal decision. It all boils down to what you want to compromise.
I'd run the numbers on a 6.5mm bullet at 500 and 600 yards, and see if the bullet will perform and expand well at the impact velocities at that distance.

Thanks chad, and all. Even though the ai is mainly for looks and prep work vs std chamber im a fan of it. I love my 260 i have currently, but want a lightweight stalking rifle as nothing i have falls into that catergory. Having built several 6.5x284's ive decided im a 260 or Creedmoor guy. Also im working with a model 7 action unless i can trade into a savage.

Sendero contour barrel for a " mountain " rifle on a M7 action doesn't jive. Why that much meat?

I had two 6.5 Creedmoor's built off Rem 7 actions by Derrick at Horizons. Both were 24 inch and shot better than I could hold.

If i went 22 id have a fluted sendero, with bansner stock and it would be light enough for me. Also ive considered a proof barrel as well for a 24 in sendero with bansner stock would be tikka t3 light. Not a fan of anything lighter than a number 3

21.5" Brux #3 fluted in 6.5 Creedmoor would be good. Not to light and not to heavy and it balances good.

I like my "mountain" rifles light! And in the mountains I hunt there is seldom need to shoot over 350 yards. The 260 is a fine cartridge that can shoot very nicely out of a less than 8 pound rifle scoped and loaded.
