Last week was super busy for us as we were getting things done ahead of the forecasted rain. Discing ponds for teal season, moving pits into position so backhoe just has to sink them in, moving skid blinds around and getting electric fences up were the main focus towards the end of the week as the rain chances continued to increase. First half of the week we were flushing a handful of ponds to give our duck food a drink and actually started pumping on a couple ponds to entice aquatic vegetation to get kick started. Still lots to do, but it's this work and the work we have been doing since the spring that pays off once season actually gets here.

What's the purpose of discing ponds before teal season since it's less than a month away? Just curious. Didn't look like it was over grown.

P.S. Looks Great !!!

We do it to open up holes, knock back the bad/useless vegetation and so we don't have to waste a bunch of water flooding ponds to 2ft deep to have good water showing when teal like shallower water better. We will keep moisture on these ponds all of Oct and by getting water on them soon it helps kick start aquadic vegetation which the birds love come late Dec and early Jan.

Sorry for the dumb question but why are you setting up the electric fences?

It's been a super busy and productive week so far. Sunk in 3 pit blind, pulled out 3 tub blinds to be moved to new property and blocked off a ton of stuff ahead of this rain; that was just Monday. LCRA started giving us water Tuesday morning, not sure how much we'll actually need now, but we'll take it while we can get it. Our obsession for waterfowl is real! Teal season is right around the corner and then regular season will be here before you know it.
