If it is HE from Texas call TPWD and they will mail you another card.

Mine is from CO and I once lost my wallet. I had them do a re-issue. I think it cost $5.

^^^ this ... I went thru HE back in 1979 and carried my card in my wallet every since. Last years when getting ready for the DIY OTC CO Elk hunt, I pulled out my card to make sure I still had it but it was so faded and worn, I called TPWD and was informed I could merely go online and print out a new one. It wasn't a business card size, actually 8.5x11, but folded up and used that when buying my license in Walmart in Durango.

Took HE in the early 2000's. My license says "hip certified". Went online for a replacement a few years ago when I lost my wallet and couldn't find myself in the database.
Got a postcard in the mail from TPWD stating I may have to retake HE as they can't find my records.
I'm hoping my license this year stays the same. I've been checked several times and have never been asked for my card. I am aware the rule book says I should keep it on my person at all times anyway.

I haven't seen mine in about 20 years.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I'm sorry, but "HIP Certified" has nothing to do with Hunters Ed. HIP is a federal migratory bird questionnaire they run you through (or are supposed to) when you buy your license. "How many dove, ducks, gailloon, etc did you kill last year."

"How many dove, ducks, gailloon, etc did you kill last year." what I was thinking ... don't get caught out dove hunting unless your license states HIP Certified, you won't like the fine if the GW checks you.

"How many dove, ducks, gailloon, etc did you kill last year." no, hip certified is something all to itself, and i completely understand all about it. if you are hip certified, it states so on your license, right next to your hunter education number if you have hunter education. it's a number that says "HE # *****" right next to where it says hip certified, those 2 things having nothing to do with each other. if you completed a hunter's education course and are not hip certified, it'll just say "HE *****" and not hip certified.

if you have a hunters ed. from Texas, it says so right on your license by "hip certified" "HE # ******* " Not always on the license! I took Hunter Education in 1981 in Texas. I didn't need it for Texas but took it here to be legal in Colorado. It's NOT on my license anywhere. I kept my original manual, my instructors #, and my student # in the safe. I too lost a wallet and because I had the info they were able to look it up for me and send me a replacement.

i've never understood the requirement to have the actual card since if you've completed the course since it's on your license where the gw can see it. i guess it's like an insurance card for your car. you can't get any renewal or anything wthout your card in hand to present to them and the insurance is in your info when you go to the tax office and they look in their computer. they know that you have it or don't just by looking at their screen. what's the point of technology if it doesn't benefit you ?

It depends on when you took the Hunters Ed as to if it appears on the license or not. Forget what year that started.
You can get a new HE card, if one has been logged in the system for you it can be retrieved and a new card issued.

Especially since they've gone to the new Inspection (no sticker) format. You have to show your insurance to get an inspection entered in the computer before you get a renewal! Sorta like wearin' a belt & suspenders at the same time.....won't get caught with their pants down!

What is hip certified? I'm 50 years old and took my safety course when I was a teenager in CA back in the early 80's. I haven't see it in decades, but think I made some copies of it before moving to Texas in 2002. I've never needed it to buy my hunting license every year because of my age.

https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdo...d-certificationMigratory Game Bird License, Permit and Endorsement Requirements Valid Sep. 1, 2016 through Aug. 31, 2017. License Requirements All migratory game bird hunters must have a valid hunting license. Non-residents under 17 years of age are designated as residents and may hunt with a resident license. Hunters 17 years of age or older must have a driver's license or personal identification certificate (issued by the Department of Public Safety) on their person while hunting. Non-residents must have similar documents issued by the agency in the state or country of which the person is a resident that is authorized to issue driver's licenses or personal identification certificates. Permit Requirements A person is required to possess either an Annual Public Hunting Permit or a Daily Hunting Permit to hunt migratory game birds on certain state and federal lands and on private lands leased by the State for public hunting purposes. Youth under the age of 17 may hunt free of charge on these lands. Endorsement Requirements A person 17 years of age or older must possess a migratory game bird endorsement receipt to hunt any migratory game bird in this state. Federal law also requires waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over to have a Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (commonly called a Duck Stamp; available at most post offices and TPWD offices). •A migratory game bird endorsement is required to hunt any migratory game bird, including mourning doves. •A Federal Sandhill Crane Hunting Permit is required to hunt sandhill cranes. •An upland game bird endorsement is required to hunt turkey, quail, pheasant, or chachalacas. Dove Leg Bands Please check doves you shoot for leg bands and report them. The bands are very small and easy to overlook. Previous studies indicated two-thirds of banded doves taken by hunters were never reported. High reporting rates maximize return on hunting license dollars spent for needed management information. Please report bands to 1-800-327-BAND (2263) or www.reportband.gov.See the Know Your Doves brochure for species identification. Harvest Information Program Requirements No person shall hunt migratory game birds in this state unless that person is certified in the Harvest Information Program (HIP) in Texas. When you purchase a hunting license, indicate to the license clerk that you intend to hunt migratory game birds and need to be HIP certified by answering a few simple questions. The letters "HIP" should appear on your license to indicate that you have been HIP certified. The Harvest Information Program (HIP) is a federally mandated program to improve information about the harvest of all migratory game birds. Anyone who purchases a hunting license or any migratory bird hunting endorsements will be asked a few simple questions about their migratory bird hunting activities. For additional information about HIP, you may consult the TPWD Outdoor Annual, the Web page for H I P or call (512) 389-4505. Fees Licenses, permits and endorsement receipts (or replacements if they are lost or stolen) are available at TPWD offices, many sporting goods stores, bait shops and other retailers, or by calling 1-800-TX-LIC-4-U.
