son of Sam is a new boar that started showing up on my place last week
Friday I took a new hog hunter with me.
Not feeling confident first time out, he requested that we hunt together.
We practiced the count down technique an hour prior.
Basically - Ready, One, Two, Boom .... the key is to pay attention to the cadence
it had been raining all day with a few stops in between...
I told him this is good weather for hog hunting as they love the rain
We got settled in the blind about 7:45pm,
had a beer and snack on a big sandwich and beef jerky
I was kicking back enjoying the pitter patter while he scans
the field with my PULSAR 750
8:45 - buddy said he thinks he sees a cow
I took the NV to scan for myself - "that's not a cow, that's a Fcuking hog " I said
I told him to get ready
hog circles the pen, dashing back and forth but would not venture in
He finally walked around to the front, that's when we did the countdown
Ready 1 - 2 - BOOM BOOM , we sent 2 NOSLER 168 BT 150 yds towards his head
hog went straight down
I hit him again in the the head just to be safe
My buddy was elated , was good to see the biggest grin on his face
we couldn't lift the hog on to ATV so we went back to camp to get my truck.
I used the hoist in the back of my truck to lift him on to the tailgate
he was 202 on the scale, but still a young boar, about 2 yr old with tiny tusks
We gutted and skinned him in the rain. Kept everything but the squeal for dinner
we'll be back next week for el Diablo
